2018 albums

Postby Thrash Bandicoot » Sun Dec 17, 2017 3:53 pm

First one of 2018 has fallen in my lap (officially, not condoning downloading).

Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs, absolutely brilliant album. Never really managed to click with this band before (admittedly my only experience of them is live, never heard a CD). This album has somehow made it all click, a lovely mixture of prog / metal and more traditional music. Will definitely be getting a couple of their older albums now and seeing if they also click.

Technically it is a 2017 album but it is so late in the year I'm going to count it as a 2018 album regardless:

Halphas - Dawn of a Crimson Age. Modern take on old school black metal, very catchy in places, very well done debut album.

The Clearing Path – Watershed Between Firmament and the Realm of Hyperborea. Not heard anything that this guy has done previously, but was recommended to me by the same person who recommended Bell Witch to me. Its like a more black metal version of Mirror Reaper, and quite dense in places, but is much shorter.

I fucking hate Prog but Orphaned Land are one of my all time favourite bands.

Just looking at Wikipedia now and 2018 kicks off to a great start with albums from Watson, Shining AND Summoning all landing on the 5th. To what do I owe this pleasure 2018!?

2017 being such a crap year?

A few albums for me to look forward to already
Reign of Fury, Suicidal Tendencies, Iron Angel, Watain, Judas Priest and Atrophy of those that are pretty much set in stone.

I'm sure I've said this for the last two years, but hopefully next year will bring new albums by Hell and Atlantean Kodex.

I'm not a fan of Tool. However next year will be the twenty eighth year since The Sisters of Mercy released a new studio album.
There will not be a new Sisters album next year.

And 33 years since they released a good one.

I imagine the new Summoning is great if you like Summoning. For me, their new album was just an amazing cure for insomnia.

Had this recommended to me:

Hamferð – Támsins likam
http://hamferd.bandcamp.com/

nice little funeral doom album, its not perfect but isn't that far off either.

I'm still enjoying the Halphas album as well.
