I knew him mostly for being "third cowboy from the left who is in every movie" in loads of the old westerns. Even before he was a star you knew his face.
Quite an impressive filmography looking at it, including a few of my favourites. I was only watching Kelly's Heroes and Cool Hand Luke a few weeks ago.
