Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
On second thoughts, I would have some fundamental rights like a right to life, to belong to a state, basic health care and freedom from torture. But even those should be alterable by referendum (not by politicians).

I'm just pointing out unexplained facts. I'm not getting it from Breitbart: https://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/coronavirus/2020/04/covid-19-coronavirus-deaths-unexplained-extra “The disparity was even larger last week,” emphasises Dr Jason Oke, senior statistician in the Oxford University Med...

Re: Coronavirus
That Coronavirus deaths weren't included in the second graph Or that most of the extra deaths were not caused by CoviD19. Yeah I'd say it's more likely that the covid 19 deaths just weren't included in the second graph. Are you suggesting 6000 people suddenly just died in a week of something ...

Till is in intensive care apparently. One news report I just saw says he is "at risk of death" Scary times Rammstein have reported that whilst Till was in ICU for one night, he tested negative for Covid19 which is good to hear. Just shows how horrible the media is these days on trying to ...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
Just because you are free to do something doesn't automatically mean you are free to do anything. The rule of thumb is so long as it doesn't hurt others. That is why every single right in the Convention is subject to restrictions and for good reasons with the exception of freedom from torture which...

Re: Coronavirus
What's the chances of all these famous people getting it. Makes me think it's much more widespread than they think and a lot of people have it without symptoms. The mortality rate between countries varies greatly, from as low as 0.2% in Iceland. I reckon it's not much more deadly than normal flu, j...

Re: Coronavirus
Since the counting began, the new coronovirus has increased the normal number of deaths (1,643 per day) in the UK by about 0.9%, and that's assuming it was the main factor in all the deaths attributed to it. The increase for Italy is, very approximately, 12.8%. One of the big issues in Italy is tha...

Re: Coronavirus
A more accurate estimate for Italy's raised death rate since the first one was recorded: 10.5%. It's now 1% for the UK. But some of those deaths would have occurred anyway, so those are inflated numbers. This is peanuts compared to the Black Death which wiped out about 40% of all European population...

Re: The rather morbid celebrity RIP Thread.
Terry Jones was my favourite Python (though I like them all). I think his humour was the second most surreal after Terry Gilliam's and before Michael Palin's. Chapman, Cleese and Idle were more towards the conventional end of comedy, but still pretty silly.

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
Freedom of Movement isn't as unrestricted as the right-wing media suggest (or at least, it doesn't have to be): https://ukandeu.ac.uk/we-can-control-eu-migration-we-just-havent-done-it/ There is one section (article 8) of the EU Human Rights Law signed away by Brown in the Lisbon Treaty that gives ...
