Re: M2TM 2017

Manchester Heat 7: Another quite poor heat unfortunatly, the winners walked it and 2nd was a scrap for least bad. Didn't help that it clashed with Battlebeast and the first day of Hammerfest so attendence was poor (even 2 of the 3 regular judges weren't there). The Forgotten Poets - Some kind of alt...

Re: Next Announcement

Not a Winterfylleth fan personally, but there was a need for some Black Metal, and even though it's a repeat I think it'll be their first main stage appearance (?), so I don't mind that so much. Never heard of any of the Sophie bands, so that's nice, some discovery to do.

Same goes for the snooker one.

I liked the snooker one. It was clever.

Re: M2TM 2017

Manchester Heat 6: Lester Verde – Stoner Rock. One of the weaker bands we’ve seen so far in the contest, they’re alright, but nothing special. Lady luck was on their side when the heats were drawn though, because they get through in second place, and deserve it as well. Any other of the heats so far...

Re: M2TM 2017

Manchester Heat 5: The Ninja Report - Hard Rock. Very good Hard Rock in fact, with a hit of prog about it. It seems the earlier start for the 5 band heats hurts the first act on in terms of audience, much like last week folk are pretty thin on the ground until about 8 which is when their set ends. I...

Re: Next Announcement

I love me some Dream Theater, but didn't we consider them likely too expensive with how much they charge at their own gigs these days? Tbh, I'd take any of them bar Parkway Drive. £75 (+booking fee, postage fee, processing fee, Ticketmaster executive hookers and blow fund fee) for a ticket to see t...

Why are you hanging around in school playgrounds mate?

Re: M2TM 2017

Black Metal is constantly overlooked. I'm not sure how accurate this is but, from my experience, it seems that the volume of black metal bands around is relatively low in comparison to, say, Metalcore (just throw a genre out there). I think that is certainly the case here. They didn't fill all of t...

Re: M2TM 2017

Manchester Heat 4: Silverchild - Hard Rock/Blues. Was gutted these guys had to pull out of heat 2 when an unspecified "medical emergency" hit their drummer a few hours before the show. Luckily the organisers let them switch into another heat. Not sure what happened, because they don't elab...

Re: M2TM 2017

Sounds like there was some decent variety in that heat! Glad to hear that some power metal is getting through the rounds too. It's been pretty good all around really. The only thing lacking right now is Death Metal, but there is some of that coming up, and Black Metal, which I think we're missing e...

Re: M2TM 2017

Manchester Heat 3: Revival – Trad with a bit of a thrashy edge and occasional growled vocals from the drummer. Really good tunes, all 4 members are technically adept, and they deal with a technical hitch towards the end of the set professionally. Frontman seems a little awkward in his audience inter...

Re: M2TM 2017

Manchester Heat 2: Faith In Glory - Really high energy Trad/Power Metal band. Put on a great show, dominate the stage, got the audience behind them, and I don't think there was any question that they were going to get through. My only criticism is that one of the two vocalists didn't really have the...

Re: M2TM 2017

I wish every heat had someone like you to give a commentary. It's great for finding new bands. Keep it up please! And if anyone attends any of the other heats, please post something like this. OK then. Manchester Heat 1: The New Breed - A slightly cock rocky affair. They've got some good tunes, goo...

Re: M2TM 2017

Here in Manchester we have 8 heats of 4-5 bands, top 2 of each going to one of 4 quarter finals, 2 semi's, then the finals in June.
