Re: movies

There are some good points in here about the movie industry adapting. Yes, times are changing and I think people would like to stream, and I think services like Netflix would benefit from having current theatrical releases available, for a price. I don't think that would kill the cinema, because peo...

Re: TV: Current and Recent

The popularity of panel shows has ruined sitcoms because comedian's are happy to take the easy money by being on panel shows instead of writing good shows. Sean Lock wrote two good series of 15 Storeys high but to my knowledge hasn't written another show in 5 years. I've always preferred panel show...

Re: A free-for-all thread

trying to find a decent text editor as notepad++ isn't on Mac :( Let me know when you find one. Considering that 'open sourced' software makes up a decent proportion of MacOS X's subsystem, the developer tools available for it are all absolutely wank in comparison to Visual Studio. I've been told t...

Depends what you want to do surely...I use mine mainly for Logic and Virtual Machines, just about to dive back into developing too, so trying to find a decent text editor as notepad++ isn't on Mac :(

Re: movies

Saw Django Unchained today, it was superb. Certainly the most epic movie Tarantino has ever done and I don't think I can find fault in it at all. If you like Tarantino movies, I don't see how you could not like it...if you don't like Tarantino movies, I wouldn't bother :) It had all of his usual tra...

Re: movies

I thought cast members were nominated for an Oscar, but I think it was released too late to be considered for this year's awards as best film ? That may well be the case...although I'm not sure why they'd be able to nominate the cast but not the film, doesn't make sense. Naomi Watts is nominated, b...

Re: movies

I would genuinely laugh if Life Of Pi won best picture, but all I can see it doing is winnign best visuals, even though that should go to The Avengers. What is the film like? I enjoyed the book but can't for the life of me see how it could translate to film. 2/3rds of it was just the young lad and ...

Re: movies

Just watched The Sweeney, not bad, certainly not great, my biggest bug bear is that I thought the Sweeney were loathsome. If they'd all died at the end I wouldn't have minded 6/10 My biggest bug bear was that they were loathsome, but also extremely thick and incompetent. Personally I hated the film...

Re: movies

There was a time (before baby) that I saw pretty much every single movie with a general cinema release, and as many limited releases as I could...now I look at that Oscar list and I've only seen ONE from the best picture list, and that's Life of Pi. I intend to see Lincoln, Django Unchained and Les ...

Re: movies

This whole Glee generation stuff is just American rubbish. I find it cringeworthy and have to turn it off, and don't get me started on the dance off stuff Oh, I agree. I hate Glee and all of the shitty clones with a passion, but i do like some musicals, and I just liked ROA. I saw it in the west en...

Really? I thought he was the only legitimately entertaining thing about Rock of Ages. He was so over-the-top as a rock star and seemed really into it, I just found him a blast to watch. Shame about the rest of the film though. I love rock of ages :( but only as a form of Karaoke. Pretty glad there ...

Re: movies

I dunno what it is, just can't stand him, it's not even set on Mars WTF They always claimed it was not a remake, but a re-imagining of the source material. After seeing the new one, it is clear this was mostly bollocks, as there were a lot of stuff lifted out of the original film. The short story i...

Re: movies

Has anybody seen Jack Reacher yet ? the reviews are good Yup. I thought it was fantastic. The biggest complaint people had before the film came out was the casting of Tom Cruise as the 6,5" brick shithouse Jack Reacher, a concern I shared to an extent, but when you think about it, there are fe...
