Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

Miliband is a hindrance in my opinion, he's someone with very little constructive to say and doesn't have the charisma to at least hide it well in a speech. But at the same time he hasn't been able to develop any credible policies, whether due to ineffectual leadership or internal party frictions; h...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

Nicola Sturgeon saying Scotland will go independent at some point and that transfer of powers will slow the change. National politics is becoming holding people ransom, it's the start of the slow road to federalism, Westminister will fight it all the way but it's an inevitability

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

The better plan would be a re-structuring of the voting areas based on STV, then a re-allocation of recources on a three-pronged system, based partically on geographic area (basic infrastructure maintainance), partially on population density (public services), and partial on an inverse proportion o...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

I agree. We should have something like the arrangement in Germany: http://www.itcwebdesigns.com/tour_germany/map_german_states.gif People have objected to creating artificial regions, but as long as they don't cut up the traditional counties then I don't see what it matters. The population is so la...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

Personally i think we should adopt a federal structure, even though i'd be dooming myself to perpetual torie rule. It won't happen because it would mean vastly weakening Westminister, but i think the UK as a whole would greatly benefit

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

The big issue i have with English MP's doing double duty is that we will still have less choice than the rest of the UK. We would have to choose an MP on their stance on England and the UK together, so if you'll have to compromise your views on the UK or England; whereas two separete MP's the issue ...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

Opinoin seems to be divided over whose utilising English devolution more as a weapon, miliband or cameron. personally think its Cameron is as he's rushing it through while he has the advantage before next May; and he's ignored the issue of English MP's doing double duty. On the other hand Milliband ...

Nah. That map's the one when the sea level rises more than an inch and the Southerners all drown. :D  Future Europe after global warming: http://vrstudio.buffalo.edu/~depape/warming/europeMap.jpg The m25 will still be jammed to the brim, just with boats instead of cars :P Being from London I f...
