Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
Why would it fail? With the support of the DUP, it would need a Conservative back bench revolt to fail to pass. And while I'm quite sure there are plenty of back benchers that want to see May gone, they're also quite aware that stabbing her in the back quite so soon would lead to a Corbyn government...

I'm fully expecting her to make a miraculous recovery on Friday. Maybe I'll be proven wrong about that.

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
Basically, yes. A ban on antique ivory won't bring those animals back to life, and it won't prevent today's animals from being slaughtered for their ivory. At which point, what is it hoping to achieve?

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
A Tory win seems beyond discussion I'm no longer so sure of that. All they had to do was not upset people and they were due a landslide victory. So what have they been promising the country since the election was announced? Restoration of fox hunting. A step back from their proposed ban on ivory tr...

Re: The (Un) Official Football thread
Danny Rose on the other hand has massively underperformed this season. Also Lloris has 15 clean sheets for the season, Courtois has 16. Rose only played 18 of 38 Premier League games this season due to injury. In those 18, he did pretty well, but I can understand you leaving him out of a TOTY. But ...

Re: The (Un) Official Football thread
Team of the year picks anyone? Starting XI and a bench. Mine would look something like this. GK| Thibaut Courtois RB| Antonio Valencia CB| Seamus Coleman CB| Gareth McAuley LB| Marcos Alonso Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha.... Goals conceded this season: 25 - Spurs 29 - Man Utd 32 - Chelsea 39 - Man City ...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
It's so infuriatingly stupidly wrong I can't even. So despite me explaining why the claim about increasing the debt was technically correct but wildly misleading, and despite me backing it up with official government data that anyone can go an independently check, you choose to just call it stupidl...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
Being that the Tories have added more national debt in the last 7 years then all Labour governments put together, all whilst under the banner of austerity, makes the idea that they can "balance the books" utterly bizarre. They've had 7 years in charge and completely failed to bring govern...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)
* Immigration - Provides a net increase in wealth for the country - immigrants spend more than they cost the national purse, as an average. This has been known for a little while and it's quite shocking that the Conservatives (10k cap) and UKIP (one in one out) can't see this. There's more to immig...
