Re: EU Referendum and Afterwards

As many people seem to be keen on dividing up the vote share between leave and remain parties, I did read some rough analysis of this prior to Northern Ireland's declaration. Obviously any analysis is made difficult by the fact that it's almost impossible to know how all Tory and Labour voters feel...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

Don't know how for the rabbit hole into conspiracy territory this goes, but the 'Independent Group' is not a political party, its a loose collective of MPs but the group is registered as a private company. This means its not subject to the same disclosure, funding and discipline codes of conduct th...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

I don't know why these rebel MPs don't just join the Lib Dems who are pretty much a centre party (by today's very capitalist standard). Apart from Brexit and possibly the desire to draw away from a two party system I can't see the 11 of them agreeing on much. Personally I don't want them in the Lib...

Re: The rather morbid celebrity RIP Thread.

Gordon Banks - the man famous for saving a shot from Pele in 1970 - has died at 81. I'd like to think he was acknowledged for being a world cup winner as well but yes, people do still talk about THAT save. A hero in many England footie fan's eyes. His whole career boiled down to 2 points, kinda dim...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

The hard leavers are gambling on a no deal exit and the remainers seem to be hoping for a second referendum to reverse the result. I would bet on the latter but it won't happen without some consequences. I'm the opposite, think we'll end up doing some kind of no deal but rebranded differently to sa...

Re: The UK political thread (formerly independence thread)

So once the no confidence vote fails tomorrow and May has stated her next steps on Monday; Corbyn should (I would say has to but there will be some way to fudge it) come off the fence one way or the other as he won't get his GE. Interesting to see if he does split the party or not there. Biggest los...

Re: What should happen with Brexit?

If it was a 3 choice question (or 2 stage ballot) and both deal and no deal are offered as options then you effectively solve the problem. A three choice question wouldn't work as you can't go with a 34% victory in a referendum. A two-stage ballot might be OK with the first question being something...

Re: What should happen with Brexit?

Here's a question for you:As it's confirmed that we can withdraw Article 50 penalty free, as few find May's deal any good; how would people feel about revoking art 50, actually thinking up a decent negotiating strategy before restarting the process afresh? I can't see the EU wanting to start again....

Re: What should happen with Brexit?

Betrayal of Brexit march around 2-3 thousand/ counter protest 8-9 thousand/ People's vote march 700 thousand So this talk of leavers coming out on the street at the idea of a second referendum is backwards, it'll be the remainers coming out on the streets if they're denied democracy. Think that argu...
