Re: Bands you saw before they made it big

One other band that might be perceived as making it big is Cauldron. Well, before they went on world tours, they were just a small Toronto band called Goathorn. I remember seeing the very first Cauldron show in a little bar, there were about 6 bands that night and they were on somewhere in the midd...

Re: Bands you saw before they made it big

Nightwish at Bradford Rios in 2004.

To say that was 'packed' would be an understatement.

Also saw Behemoth support Devil Driver at Leeds Rios in 2009

Re: Guess what date gigs will be back to normal (no social distancing)

Nah, don't see it myself. The vaccine isn't going get to enough people in time to make a 4 days festival safe. I don't see it either but the priority isn't to keep everyone from getting ill. Once everyone above a certain age group has been vaccinated (say, 50+) then the government won't give a shit...

Re: Guess what date gigs will be back to normal (no social distancing)

I'm amazed Hard Rock Hell Spring Break still thinks it's going ahead, that said Chic Festivals are a bunch of bastards. They know full well it ain't going ahead. They're just out to bleed as much money out of people as they can before cancelling at the last possible minute and then refusing all req...

Re: So much for Iced Earth...

It won't stop me listening to Iced Earth's music either, particularly given that their material isn't overly political (Glorious Burden aside and even then, a lot of that was more in the historical sense a la Sabaton) and given that I feel that would be disrespectful to the other members of the band...

Re: Where's all the jokey metal at?

Depends on your definition I suppose - like you say, there's pirate metal. I wouldn't normally lump power metal in with this although I'll make an exception for Gloryhammer even though I'd just describe them as 'shit'. Based purely on having a bit of a daft gimmick, you've also got Evil Scarecrow, N...

Re: So much for Iced Earth...

I really hope you wrote this entirely off your own back and not because you actually took any ridiculous threats of legal action seriously. This! If I recall correctly there have been a number of occasions when certain people or a certain person ----mentioning no name for fear of getting sued!-----...

Re: So much for Iced Earth...

Hi all, regarding my rather inflammatory comments about one particular member the other day I would like to clarify that I was not being serious and it was an attempt at satire (although a rather poor one I suppose) based on a few rather unpleasant posts I can recall over the last couple of years f...

Re: So much for Iced Earth...

We still don't know John's motivation, and that is important. Very important. To react to the possibility that someone has undertaken a social and political transgression, by say: feeling disgust at your prior-self watching their band, or wishing the accused livelihood to be taken away, creates poo...

Re: So much for Iced Earth...

Even if you think Rob Flynn is being smug or finding problems where they don't exist, I really don't see how you can equate someone being vocally anti-racist with someone who took part in an act of fascism and tried to stop a democratically elected President from being confirmed. Schaffer could have...

Re: Guess what date gigs will be back to normal (no social distancing)

Last night's announcement just proves that until a vaccine is rolled out to enough people, particularly enough vulnerable people, then we are essentially stuck in this constant loop of lockdowns, partial lockdowns, tiers, etc. Everything they've tried since March last year is akin to forcing a squar...
