My respect for Metal Hammer was already plummeting at unbelievable speeds but having just seen that their cover is dubbing Avenged Sevenfold as "Kings of Metal" and they have a fucking feature on Linkin Park.... I have literally no respect for it whatsoever anymore

Christ on a bike. I know it was going down hill when I stopped getting it (probably around 08 I reckon), but that is something else.

I do find Terrorizer useful most of the time, I just go into WH Smiths when it comes out, leaf through it and note which albums to download on my phone and put it back on the shelf. Would never actually buy it because they articles are so dull and samey and it's ridiculously overpriced, handy for info though.

I've not really found much magazine wise lately that interests me. I've even given up on Iron Fist now.
I did get a(n over priced) special on The Cure (I think it's Uncut magazine) the other week, and I'm loving it. Literally read every page so far. It's like a journalistic biography, with interviews from the time, and retrospective album reviews, all going chronologically. I think I'm up to 1995 at the moment. But it is a one off, which for 90% of bands probably wouldn't be commercially viable.

I used to love magazines, but I am wondering of late if they've outstayed their relevance. Certainly when news and interviews seem commonplace on-line. Sure they can sometimes be good for interviews, but then it's usually a 3 page spread in a magazine of 100 or so pages. I've bought mags before to read about one band, and it's ended up being a half page column feature. Which when you pay roughly £4 or there abouts, really doesn't seem worth it.

I still like the physical version. Here's how I use Terrorizer.

First it comes to my door. Excitement!

Then I plug my head phones into my laptop and open up youtube.

As I read each article I listen to the band's music, or sometimes specifically the new album they're talking about.

When I get to the Selected and Dissected (album reviews) section, I play this game:

I choose one album from each page (based on album cover and review) that I would like if I could get one free from each of these pages. Then I find the album or a music video and listen to what I just imagined myself getting.

Iron Fist is the only magazine I consistently bother with any more.

Got a year subscription to Metal Hammer through the Sonisphere deal, this months issue was decent (the first half of the cd was great, rest was shite) but I'm definitely looking forward to future issues

Metal Hammer is total garbage, you can tell just how much they're paid to promote/write about certain artists all the time.

Terrorizer is kinda flawed, but it's a good read.

Zero tolerance is probably the best.

Thing with magazines though is, I went to have a look at terrorizer yesterday. They still had november ones. So all the gig and album reviews were from September and October. Three month old news and views - with ZT being every two months its probably even older. Just going online you can find it all out easier these days. Only get them for journeys.
