Yeah I'm hoping so too. Starspawn is excellent.

To be honest, after being initially impressed with the sound and extreme brutality of it, I haven't returned to it very much. As with all slamming brutal-death albums, it suffers from a lack of variety.

It sounded "functional" for lack of a better word, but nowhere near their debut.

For anyone that likes their melodeath, check out the new Aspherium album. Just been released. And then Insomnium and In Mourning both out on October 4th.

Wow, I didnt know there was a new Abyssal album until my friend told me the other day. Listening to it now and it's crazy dark and heavy, reminds me a lot of Sinistrous Diaboulus. Will have a listen again when not at work cause getting distracted a lot with phone ringing and such, but I can tell this is going to be one of my favourites of the year.

It's insanely dark. Takes several listens to fully appreciate but sounding even better now the days are getting colder and autumn is approaching.

My favourite metal albums this year so far are Sabaton, Sacred Reich and Atlantean Kodex. The Gloryhammer is good fun too. I'm finding myself extremely tired of death and black metal nowadays, just can't get excited by anything new. I don't think it's been a great year for metal tbh, most of my favourite albums are from completely different genres. Looking forward to the new Alcest though.

I'm honoured to have been missed  I didn't go to Bloodstock this year so kind of drifted away from the forum...sure it's been no more than a couple of months though. I'm going to struggle to come up with 20 metal albums I've particularly liked this year but happy to run the poll again!

Toxic Holocaust sticking to what they do best on their latest. Playing unoriginal but good head banging tunes.

Top 5 for me this year and the reason why I liked it, in no particular order -
Amon Amarth - Beserker (Angry, catchy and vikingy)
Overkill - Wings of War (Thrashy, bat shit crazy)
Sabaton - Great War (catchy eurovision-metal)
Rammstein - self titled (Do we want to play heavy industrial or techno trance? Rammstein "Jah")
Volbeat - Rewind, Replay, Rebound (I know they arent for everyone but I love em)

Special mention to as yet unreleased albums from Mayhem (the two lead singles are bloody good) and Lindemann (Steh Auf is a cracker)
