2019 Gigs

Postby bloodofthekings » Wed Dec 18, 2019 11:06 am

So for those who have finished their gig-going for 2019, I thought we'd have ourselves a good ol' list! (My last one is Clutch tomorrow so I'll do mine after that)

How many gigs did you go to this year?

How many/which festivals did you go this year?

What were your top 3 gigs (including festival sets) of the year?

Band/Artist that you didn't expect much from but ended up being really good?

Band/Artist you thought would be good but disappointed you?

How many gigs did you go to this year?

12 and Brutal Assault

How many/which festivals did you go this year?

Brutal Assault

What were your top 3 gigs (including festival sets) of the year?

Carpenter Brut
The Gathering (I'm biased as they're my favourite band in the world, but they WERE really good)
Blasphemy
Necros Christos (at BA and in London)
Devin Townsend

Band/Artist that you didn't expect much from but ended up being really good?

Anthrax. Never been much of a fan, but they were exceptionally good fun at Brutal Assault

Band/Artist you thought would be good but disappointed you?

Emperor were the worst out of all the times I've seen them. Ihsahn really seems to be going through the motions these days.

Heilung hadn't impressed me too much on record, really glad I checked their set out at Wacken Winter Nights anyway.

Band/Artist you thought would be good but disappointed you?

Carach Angren. I had a memory of them being top notch at Hellfest a few years ago so bought tickets for the tour earlier this year, but we ended up leaving early.

- CJ Ramone supporting Descendents. Thought it was going to be a 2nd rate Ramones tribute but the enthusiasm and spirit he performed with showed he loved what he was doing.
- Church of the Cosmic Skull at HRH Doom. Heard 1 song before seeing them and wow, instant fan and bought a ticket to their UK tour next year.

CJ reignited the Ramones when he joined. Those final few years were awesome primarily because of him.

How many gigs did you go to this year?

ummmm lots, I'd guess about 50

How many/which festivals did you go this year?

Hellfest, Brutal Assault, Damnation

What were your top 3 gigs (including festival sets) of the year?

Avantasia in London, Cradle Of Filth at the Palladium, Rammstein in Milton Keynes, Ghost in Nottingham, Gutalax at Brutal Assault....that's 5, oh well.

Band/Artist that you didn't expect much from but ended up being really good?

Violent Magic Orchestra at Brutal Assault, literally the most mental performance I've ever seen. Wandered into a tent to see them to talk shelter from the rain, and got attacked by a non-stop sensory overload barrage of electronic black metal and blinding strobe lights with most of the band ending up in the crowd....not sure whether I went to a live performance or a physical endurance test.

Band/Artist you thought would be good but disappointed you?

Manowar at Hellfest, thought they'd be great, but they didn't even turn up.

I'd forgotten about that. Felt exactly the same way, ended up wandering off to do something else.
