Re: movies
Ok I am not a horror fan, but love action sci-fi, is Prometheus like the first Alien movie, because I will give it a miss if it is
Re: movies
Prometheus isn't like an alien film really.
I think that's why people disliked it.

The only things it really shares with Alien is that it has a female lead, a cyborg and some aliens. The plot very much centres around the crashed ship in the first film and what It's crew were/came from.
Tbh, Ridley said from the start that it would be linked but not directly linked to Alien. I personally loved it and thought it was a great sci-fi film. It captured a lot of elements from Alien like the intensity.

Re: movies
Well i'm off in to town in a bit to get some fresh bread and some bacon for my breakfast, so may get the bluray at the same time, i have to admit trailer looks great, and Ridley Scott is one of my fav directors, his sense of epic is rarely matched, my favourite film by him is Kingdom Of Heaven

I paraphrase, although I know what you're saying tbf, but Prometheus is basically identical to Alien, just updated a bit with some fancy special effects and half-baked pseudo-philosophy hanging precariously off it.
Crew land on planet.
Crew find something on planet.
Something infects the crew.
Shifty android.
Alien thingy.
Crew get offed.
Certainly not a bad film, but not the greatest either. Hopefully he (or somebody) will make the next couple of films that will help fill in the fairly massive holes (some deliberate, others not so much) in between.

Intensity? I thought that's exactly what it lacked, which was the main reason it was rubbish!

Re: movies
Ronin: Robert De Niro's vacation in France pic. Not exactly a defining role, but a good, atmosphere, cast, great shootouts and car chases 8/10
The Devils: The full film seems to be lost in various dustbins, but this is the most complete version released of a film that has only been shown a handful of times since it was made in the 70s due the sex and religious content (nuns masturbating, a deformed sister has erotic dreams about licking Christ-like wounds, exorcism via enema). Oliver Reed plays a defiant priest and governor of an autonomous town in France who refuses to relinquish the town to the King, so a campaign of religious hysteria is whipped up to get the populous to side against him. Goes a bit arty and indulgant at times, but its a striking, singular film with a great performace from Reed. 8/10

All right, so I MADE a mistake! ONE MISTAKE!
Can't a man start over?! Do I have to keep on PAYING?! HUH?!
Maybe I should make another mistake! ...maybe TWO more!

Re: movies
I agree re the lack of intensity in Prometheus. I spent a good deal of the film palpably bored. It had it's moments ( it certainly looked great ) but was a mess of plot holes, silliness and pseudo mumbo jumbo. Easily my disappointment of the year.
Re: movies
Damn predict phone text. I meant it captures a lot of the alien elements unlike the intensity. I enjoyed Prometheus but for different reasons to alien. Hopefully Ridley knows what he is up to with its sequel cas there are a lot of open questions and plot holes that don't line up with Alien.

Re: movies
Seeing as Prometheus was one of my most anticipated films of the year, I'm pretty shocked I haven't seen it yet. Managed to miss it at the cinema and the showing at my Union cinema last week. Guess I'll just have to get the blu ray and hook the TV up to my dad's sound system to make my own mini cinema.

rather enjoyed the new Madagascar film - IMO better than the second but not as good as number 1.
