A lot of people (both boys and girls) refuse to listen "that shouty crap" that they have never heard before, but are extremely willing to force you to listen to chart music that you have heard umpteen times and is terrible because "everyone listens to it". I'd rather not put up with that kind of bullshit when I could be having conversations about and listening to something I am interested in.

True, I'm not disagreeing as such. But I listen to more than just (seemingly minuscule amounts of) metal so I guess I wouldn't have that kind of problem.
If I like it, It's probably awful.

My brother's girlfriend has banned him from listening to metal in their shared apartment. Pretty harsh tbf seeing as she forces him to listen to shitty, girly music that goes on about how we should all make out with dolphins and braid flowers into our hairs. Fuck that Free Willy high-pitched mumbo-jumbo.

Regardless of whether you're metal or not, anyone who tries to change anyone is a bit of a twunt. Relationship earmarked for pain or outright failure.

Me and James met through a metal forum. Seven years on (wtf, seven?!) metal only features in the car stereo on the way to work. We genuinely don't talk about metal unless we're buying a CD, t-shirt or gig ticket. The right person will bring more than their music taste to a relationship.

No scene here. I saw one guy with a Marduk hoody that must had been bought him by his mum because it looked a few sizes too big for him. Wise thinking though, when he gets into year 9 he'd have grown into that, saves time and money spent in George.

Yeah, Vicky has never really been a fan of metal, and it's only recently when I've gotten into Trance a bit, and the sort of One Tree Hill type song has she not objected to music I play when she'd round. But she puts up with my music and I put up with hers. It's not the end of the world if I don't like a song that comes on, I'm there to see her not to listen to music with her.

As for trying to change people. As Fjar said, it won't end well I don't think. I've never forced metal on Vicky. Was I happy when she asked to borrow Metropolis Part 2? yeah sure, did I care that she never got round to listening to it of her own accord? No, not really. Some people like some things, and some people like other things. A relationship goes beyond a aspect of your life, however important you feel it is to you.

Everyone has parts of their personality and interests which are set, and if you try to change them then yes. However, people can easily change in terms of their partner getting them to be more relaxed about some things, or can get them interested in things they weren't before, which could lead to what most people would call them "changing," but is still perfectly reasonable and possible in a relationship.

the girl I was seeing didn't like the music. I think she tried to pretend to but kind of though she was dating some weirdo who doesn't like RnB (so therefore must be stupid in some way). God, bloody RnB. Why do women like it so much? It's so overproduced and just... nothing.

I'm starting to see the reason for your lack of success with women..

Mehhh...I do agree with the point you're making but in this particular case he's kind of right to say women, as more women than men listen to chart music/RnB, I put them together because RnB dominates the charts these days (although granted I can't back this half up) and most other musical genres are male dominated, which doesn't need backing up if you look at the subcultures of things, such as metal and even rock, or hip hop and rap through to grime

I'd way rather go out with someone who was into metal than not into metal. Metal doesn't really dominate my every day life in any way (aside from listening to it), but it's still an important part of my life/personality and I like having someone I can discuss it with and share it with. I like that Jamie takes me to gigs he takes photos at and I'm looking forward to going to festivals with him in the summer, I wouldn't have that with someone who didn't like metal.

I have to say, I'm kind of picky in that sense. If a guy won't come to rock nights/gigs/festivals with me its a no go. It's a massive part of my life when I'm not doing my nursing to have that side of my life.
So for me, someone who likes metal/general rock orientated stuff, is a must.
