Fuuuuuuck I'm bad. Oh well. It was yesterday that I dumped her. I guess that's not nuclear holocaust bad.

When I lived in Brum the lad I was with for a few years dumped me on Valentines day. I was in a shared student house so he slept in one of the rooms downstairs and in the morning I got notes through the door saying he missed me already and made me breakfast before I went to uni!

Lesson here - never live in Birmingham.

Metal doesn't really dominate my every day life in any way (aside from listening to it), but it's still an important part of my life/personality and I like having someone I can discuss it with and share it with. I like that Jamie takes me to gigs he takes photos at and I'm looking forward to going to festivals with him in the summer, I wouldn't have that with someone who didn't like metal.

When I was with Jamie, despite us both liking metal we had quite differing tastes so it didn't really feature much in our relationship. We didn't go to many gigs together and never did a festival together either. Maybe that's why it didn't last!

Yeah, we have quite different tastes too, but I like going to most gigs whether or not it's my thing anyway. But I dunno, we've barely been together 6 months so who knows!

I really can't do that - if the band doesn't interest me, I get really fed up really quickly (as Jamie has no doubt told you already!)

I once went out with a beaaaauuuutiful girl and I had to dump her because I was moving far far away and for a few reasons. I've never been with anyone quite as lovely as her since either. Pretty girls yes, but she was so smart I could talk to her about anything. She wasn't perfect though, but I wont bitch here. Looked a bit like Olga Kurylenko and Mila Kunis mixed.

Being into similar music isn't a prerequisite but it helps a lot, especially if you've built your social circle around that bunch. Also people into the same sort of music are vaguely speaking more likely to be of a similar disposition as well. Doesn't stop some people from being vapid bints, though.

it's the most bent music in the world. Un-listenable.

Jazz can be pretty sweet, but I'm rarely in the mood for it. Especially not the stuff that sounds like 5 different people playing 5 different songs at the same time.

Music isn't a deal breaker in a relationship and if you're putting that much thought into it then you're really not looking at the bigger picture.

My best mate and guitarist is married - he loves power metal and his wife loves One Direction etc, they don't care. My girlfriend loves a lot of black metal and noise, while she generally dislikes a lot of power metal (which I love) and we don't care either.

There'll always be differences between you and a partner, whether in music or otherwise. At the end of the day would you rather have someone exactly like you or someone who's different enough you can actually talk about things other than music?

It's most likely been said on one of the pages previously, but it's naive to think music would be a deal breaker, there are other things you can have in common

I've always found that I end up influencing my girlfriend's music taste over time

Some friends of mine seem to think there is an unwritten rule that if you are dating someone in a band you must attend all their shows even if it is not your cup of tea.

They then spend the whole night texting other friends moaning at how bored they are.

I really don't get that, I would probably check out one of two shows as if it is something that is important to them I would want to support them with it , but I definitely wouldn't turn up to every gig (even if it was free) regardless of whether or not it was my sort of music as it's a relationship not a 24 hour surveillance exercise. . I would expect the exact same in return for my band. I find I'm better at networking when I'm by myself as I don't have to worry about whether or not they are bored out of their skulls.

Don't even get me started on when they come to band practice!!!
