Eh. Maybe I've been spoilt by PC games, but if a game's running at 30fps, it looks odd to me now.

I'm used to smooth as fuckness of 60+fps.

I think framerate is pretty important, really. A game can look gorgeous, but if stutters in motion, what''s the point? A bad framerate definitely has more of a detriment on gameplay than graphics do.

Framerate is definitely important, but it's not make or break as long as it's smooth. (See AC Unity for how horrible it is to have even LOWER than 30) 30fps is acceptable, but I do agree that I'm so used to 60fps plus that it does feel sluggish.

The reason people complain is probably because the consoles are next gen, and yet, they still can't even try to compete with PC. I think a lot of people were expecting 1080p 60 as standard.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I can live with 30fps absolutely fine. But when a framerate drops below that - as happens in a lot of AAA titles, just because there's so much fancy stuff going on all the time - I find it really off-putting.

On a different note, finished LA Noire. That was a really great game. I've now started Shadows of the Damned to follow it up, which is hilariously awesome.

I keep seeing/hearing AAA used in describing games. Dafuq does it stand for?

It's just a term used for games with big budgets i.e. Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty etc. All the games that are really heavily advertised because they can afford to. I don't think it actually stands for anything explicitly.
Catch me at:

Kamelot - London
Slipknot - London

2025
Leprous - London

Exactly that - high budget, highly marketed titles that are usually expected to be bestsellers.

LA Noire really was fantastic, people seemed a bit meh about it, but I agree that it was a wonderful game and an absolute joy to play through.

With the framerate thing, I think it does matter. When i'm done playing one of Nintendo's select few games that always keep exactly to 60, it seems really crummy going to something at 30 or that suffers even worse. I would rather a nice smoothness than exceptional graphics that try too much and suffer for it.

I too think frame rate is much more important than graphics. I'd rather play something that looks a bit crap but plays fluidly than something that looks pretty but can't keep up with itself.

Totally agreed there.

Sam: I think if LA Noire had been any longer, it probably would have got a little meh - some of the mechanics can get a bit boring, but stuff like being able to skip the inconsequential driving sequences helped alleviate that quite a bit. But that plot kept me utterly hooked, I never really wanted to stop playing.

I was fine with the dull driving bits, I found it immersing for some reason! I loved the story, but I didn't like him randomly sleeping with the German woman, I found that weird and pointless and I didn't want him to.

LA Noire was a fantastic game! I went through and got all the achievements that's including all the DLC i loved that game so much :)

Still playing The Evil Within at the moment which is pretty good apart from the stupid camera angles and the over the should camera which just restricts your view.

PayDay 2 might just be one of the best shooters I played in years.

I didn't feel like it was random - it was kind of hinted at quite a lot before it happened, with Cole's various police partners dropping lines about Cole not being the most present of husbands / fathers, and you not seeing any inkling of his family until shit hits the fan. It's also creates the build up for seeing some of Cole's flaws, making him seem more human than the godlike hero he is at the beginning. The game did character development really well, thinking about it!

Was waiting for my PC to update its OS earlier so decided to have a crack at Saints Row 3, as I got it free a while back. I've always dismissed it as a GTA knock-off, but my god is it fun and so much better.
