When I went to the Moorings in Aberdeen, some barfly started talking to me in REALLY thick Scottish, and I replied to him about whatever it was, and he just looked shocked at me. Then he said to me something along the lines of "Goodness me, I thought you were a local scotsman until you began with your witty retort!" Obviously he said it in Scottish lingo though.

I've been assumed to be foreign a few times before I've started speaking. Some people seem to be under the illusion that being very pale and yet having dark eyes and hair somehow makes you of Eastern European descent by default. Strange

My name's French but nobody has ever made an assumption as to where I'm from. Some bloke in Derby once stopped me then guessed I was from Dudley when I spoke. Not far off but enough to offend me.
