I'm kind of surprised he hung on to the steering wheel. In a crash like that, you're better off letting go. It's too easy to break a wrist if a wheel hits the ground hard and wrenches the steering wheel out of your hands. Still, it's hard to comment without having done it (fortunately) and the roll was at least relatively sedate.

FWIW, someone I race with had a nasty crash a year ago this weekend. He's OK now, but it was a pretty major accident:

How come it seems to slow down, then start spinning like mad again afterwards?

Physics. Although the car appeared to initallly roll slowly, it was still travelling forward at a surprising speed (it will have been doing around 130mph by that point) and thus will still have had a lot of energy. When the car oriented itself appropriately to allow rotation, that's where the energy went.

Don't have a TV? If you're referring to streaming online, yeah I'm looking into it but having issues atm as still only got the chromebook. Was gonna buy a main laptop by now but the bank/post fucking up the PIN for my card means I can't buy online, make any large payments with it or take out cash. Might just withdraw 600 euros and go buy a laptop in person from the store.

So, it turns out motorsport (especially open cockpit) is extremely hazardous. It also turns out people still routinely forget this. Jules Bianchi's freak accident has aptly demonstrated this. Let's hope he makes a full and speedy recovery, and thank fuck he didn't collect any marshals!

I like how the fastest lap order of race one sets the grid for race two. It basically makes race 1 also a qualifying session for race 2. It'll properly mix things up quite nicely over the course of the season!

Without making me read a long winded version which the regulations probably would be, how are they actually gonna measure that fairly without massively penalising the cars having to do more distance for their first lap (from being further back)? Or that just considered fair enough because they qualified back there for the first race.

The winner of race 3 of the previous meeting (except the first) has 45KG of success ballast, and the other 4 runners up all carry diminishing success ballast too, for race 1 of the next meeting.

1st position: +45 Kg
2nd: +36 Kg
3rd: +27 Kg
4th: +18 Kg
5th: +9 Kg
6th or lower: 0 Kg

Yup F1 cars go through Eau Rouge flat out. They need to, to keep up the downforce otherwise they'd loose grip.
