When a somewhat sheltered, geeky girl was pestering my housemate about why there was one of those proper cool black guys hanging around outside our house late the other night, instead of admitting she was shagging him and facing the whole interrogation, the first thing that came to mind was naturally 'oh, he's a friend of Kate's'.
