"bhf" the f in this is silent, no idea why it is there. The bh makes a w sound because it is followed by a broad vowel.

*EDIT* the f doesn't make a sound because it is only there to show what tense it is in. Also the reason "bh" makes w and v sounds depending on what vowels follow it is because those letters don't appear in the Gaelic alphabet. Neither does j, x, y or z.

"ai" this dipthong makes an e sound

"gh" in the middle of a word this sound normally makes a very slight y sound, here it seems to be silent

"idh" in this case also makes an ee sound


So technically it should be "weyee" but for easiness the indistinct y is dropped, which I think is why this word is chosen for showing how "stupid" Gaelic is because it is rare breaking of the rules. Believe it or not though Irish pronunciation and spelling rules are a lot more regular and concrete than English.

Take the English words "through", "though", "rough", "cough", "borough", "hiccough" and "plough." Seven words with the same ending AND NONE OF THEM RHYME!

We went for a drink in the Fenton, which is apparently the pub of choice for newly legal, mid-identity crisis teenagers.
