I'm going to a foreign country all on my own tomorrow. Why did I think this was a good idea?

Where ya going? When I went to Vancouver alone, i found it pretty easy to socialise despite not kowing people

I'm going to Paris which is certainly not the most social of cities.

I dunno, I reckon I would like to do what you are doing. I'm not overly confident or owt but I don't think I would have any problems sightseeing and going to bars and that on my own. I do that in the UK every now and then! If it's booked now and you're definitely going just enjoy it, you never know who you will meet or what you may end up doing, have an open mind

Nah there is a difference between paranoia and vigilance. Just be sensible, keep your cash in your front pockets, that sort of thing.

PIck-pockets on the tube is probably the only thing you need to be worried about in Paris, keep your bag close at all times.
You're probably only likely to be targeted if you look like a target. Common sense really, but If you're walking alone through streets at night, either put your hood up and make yourself invisible or walk confidently like you know exactly where you're going.

Yeah I never felt unsafe in Paris at all. I mean don't get me wrong, it's full of cunts and all, but it definitely never felt dangerous like that. Like the others said, as long as you're sensible you'll be grand

Aye it's like any big city. As long as you're not walking round flashing wads of notes whilst talking on a smart phone or something you're usually sorted.

Also look like you're aware of your surroundings. Don't need to look like a tourist with your head waving everywhere but walk with a confident stride. Muggers will be less inclined to target you that way.

I was reminded of my phobia/grossed outness of holey things by the food thread, and I remembered these toads. They have their spawn stuck to their back, and then their skin grows over it. And then their baby frogs hatch AND FORCE THEIR WAY OUT THE PORES IN ITS BACK. I almost threw up when I first saw them.





And when I was searching it this came up, which is apparently a type of mushroom. I think it grossed me out more than anything.
