It was always "upper school" for me.

Nah, I call it secondary school. Jage called it 'high school' so it was just easier to put it that way.

I remember having many an argument with Shane because he refers to his school as high school as well because it was in the name of the school. He also calls Primary school, Lower school.

Sometimes I referred to my secondary school as "Comp" as it was a Comprehensive school

Edit: Now I'm having that thing where "school" doesn't look like its spelled correctly because I've typed it out too many times

In Scotland it's always just 'high school'. Some refer to it as 'secondary school', but the majority are known as 'X High School' or 'X Grammar School'.

Mine had 'high school' in the name too, as do most of the other local schools, as far as I'm aware.

All this High School talk has reminded me of this video...

It's got Seb Bach, a midget, surrealism and the very sexy Maxine Petrucci (her sister, Roxy - from Vixen - is on drums too)
All right, so I MADE a mistake! ONE MISTAKE!
Can't a man start over?! Do I have to keep on PAYING?! HUH?!
Maybe I should make another mistake! ...maybe TWO more!

I think it's an Americanism, just like the year system now being used. We had forms which started at first when you were 11. When you went into sixth form to do your A levels you were 16. Non of this year 7 and year 12 nonsense.

Secondary to me too.

I don't think they have years in America do they? I thought it was grades - as in you had to pass Fourth Grade to get to Fifth?

Yep - I went to the high school in Tarporley and (according to Wiki) it changed from a 'secondary' to a 'high' school in 1976.

The grades are years in America, from what I understand, but yeah, you do have to pass the year to go onto the next one. That's what my American friends say anyway!

I went to to "Haydock High School", and the other secondary schools in my area, all had "high" in their names too.

Note that many Americanisms started of as British regionalisms.

As far as I've been able to piece it together, US grades are one year older than the equivalent year here (so eight grade in the US would be the age equivalent of the seventh grade/first form over here), but they start a year later.

I remember going from being a second year to being a ninth year...

Yeah, I went to Bedford High School.
Looking at Wikipedia, there are 16 schools in the Wigan Borough with 'High School' in their name.

I think the year thing just comes from it being x year of your education, which sort of makes sense to me.
We had Forms, but I don't think in the same sense as previously mentioned. With us it was a registration group. I was in form 7.8, which changed to 8.8, 9.8 and so on.
