Freedom of choice, you can choose to live in one or the other as you wish with no paperwork.

Yup, if a parent is Scottish you can claim citizenship. Or will be able to. Maybe. If they get independence.

Fair enough. I don't think I'll ever want to live in Scotland anyway.

Which they won't, by the look of it. But if they were, my mum was born in Scotland and lived there for more than the required 10 years before moving down to London, so it looks like she'll count as a citizen (and thus so will I).

If Scottish independence does happen and you're eligible for a passport and plan to be travelling around the world definitely get it. No offence to all you English, but the rest of the world hates you.

Prestwick is under public ownership (they bought it last week for £1).

They've said they'll accept British passports until their expirey - dual citizenship is up for grabs.

Speaking of which, I'll get Scottish Citizenship grandfathered (as it were) thanks to my mum.

That's pretty interesting, i read somewhere that the EU might want to stipulate border fences along the boundary line so i wasn't sure if that was likely to have some kind of point to it or if it'd just be to satisfy the EU.

Just admit you are all part of England.

That's right folks you've heard it here first.

Not simply content with only stealing our wallets when we decide to visit, it seems scousers are now attempting to steel our identities too haha.

I'm actually more German, Australian and Welsh than so called "Scouse".

Then again, I've probably been to Maine Road or the Emirates( Oh sorry the Shit Jihad) more times than you've been out of the shit hole that you're from.

And I don't need a wall of text to say it.

No, I think it only goes back one generation. So if your mother or father have lived in Scotland for 10 years or more at any point in their lives, they (and thus you) should qualify.

Edit: I read the thing and I was right

Following independence, other people will be able to apply for Scottish citizenship. For example, citizenship by descent will be available to those who have a parent or grandparent who qualifies for Scottish citizenship.

My grandparent qualifies due to being born there and having lived there during childhood, so I can be one too! It's the same as football eligibility, I could play for the Scotland national team as well.

If Scotland got independence, would all the Jocks living here who claim Scottish citizenship have to go back?

Likewise, those Jocks whom don't want independance would they theoretically be able to claim asylum here?
