I went to to "Haydock High School", and the other secondary schools in my area, all had "high" in their names too.

Note that many Americanisms started of as British regionalisms.

As far as I've been able to piece it together, US grades are one year older than the equivalent year here (so eight grade in the US would be the age equivalent of the seventh grade/first form over here), but they start a year later.

I remember going from being a second year to being a ninth year...

My school's official title was "The High School for Girls" - not even a mention of the place! Everyone just calls it Denmark Road though.

Do people in England really call tech "college" like in Skins? That really annoyed me whenever I used to watch that show with my sister. Funnily my school has college in the name (Our Lady And Saint Patrick's College Knock) but was a catholic grammar and always referred to as thus.

...What's tech? Do you mean 6th form type thing? I called mine college because they were colleges, Lewes 6th Form College and Brighton City College. Unless I'm missing what you mean entirely!

Yeah, like a 6th form college (generally former technical colleges- hence tech.) Like in Belfast there is Belfast Metropolitan College which everyone refers to as "tech." I think we call it that because we just love archaisms. Like people calling the radio "the wireless" etc.

I always called Collage Collage, but again, that's because it was called Winstanley College, there's nowt else I would call it.

I just wish people would make more effort! People have posted photos of the back of their heads and blurry webcam snaps where you can't even make out features.

I've got no problem with the 'dyed my hair!/ look at my new dress/ here's me wasted at such and such festival' but if you've got nothing to say about your photo, why post it?
