Currently drinking a pint of this:

Pretty nice, it's almost like cider without the sweetness.

Re: The Ale Thread.
Is that the Caesar Augustus or have they done another one of that ilk?
Caesar Augustus is pretty good, as is their Fraoch Heather Ale. Keep meaning to try some of their other weirder offerings like Alba (Scots Pine) and Kelpie (Seaweed).

Yep Caesar Augustus is the one. I've loved everything from them I've tried which so far includes Alba, Kelpie, Fraoch, Cock o The Walk and Birds And Bees. Amazingly there's still over 20 beers by them I haven't tried! Shame they only ship in Britain or I'd order a few crates. The ones I'm really keen to try are Good Times (gooseberry and elderflower Lager), Midnight Sun (spicy porter), Paradigm Shift (unusual red ale) and especially Ebelum (elderberry and bog myrtle favoured chocolate oat ale.)

Re: The Ale Thread.
Had a lovely coffee and chocolate stout in the Poppy and Pint last Wednesday and a lovely coffee porter in the Bread and Bitter on Monday. Both guest ales in Castle Rock pubs.

Re: The Ale Thread.
Finally got round to trying the Farmagedon stuff, the newest of the Northern Ireland breweries. The grapefruity golden pale ale was good but the porter was something else entirely. Rich, complexly hopped and a really unique jaffa tasting finish to it. Still need to try their IPA though.

Re: The Ale Thread.
Franciscan Well Rebel Red seems to have taken over Dublin in the past few months, like Doombar levels of explosion. Much better on tap than bottled, killer serving glasses too.
Also tried a few new ones. O'Hara's Adventure Amber I went for based on the Indiana Jones bottle design but wasn't that fussed on. Very Shepherd Neame-y, not quite the same quality as their red, pale or stout. Finished the night off with 3 from Carrig Brewery from Leitrim. Their Poacher's Pale was pretty standard, refreshing stuff but the other 2 were spectacular. Brazen Amber Ale was nice and malty, biscuity and sweet and maybe a little bit woody, the Piper's Pale was similar but even sweeter and had a real treacle, toffee and roasted hazelnut flavour to it too. It was a tad too carbonated but otherwise really really good.

This stuff is the shit:
...made with them coffee beans wot have been shat out by a weasel.
It's very nice but bloody expensive.
Interestingly, the Japanese have a beer made with coffee beans wot have been shat out by an Elephant:

You can also get a beer from Rogue which is made with yeast grown in the chief brewer's beard.

Mikkeller do a lot of fantastic beers, actually. They've done some superb collaborations with BrewDog and Nøgne Ø, and other breweries that I'm a big fan of. They do tend to be expensive (and real kopi luwak is bound to add a chunk on top of the price of this particular one) but since I've yet to have a beer from them that wasn't superb, they're worth it. A 330ml bottle of Tokyo is likely to set you back in the region of £15, but it's worth every penny.

Yeah, I've had a few of their beers at Brewdog and they're usually very good. Was really impressed with Spontanbeetroot and Betelgeuze. I was a bit disappointed with their milk stout though.

I was talking to the manager of The Swan the other day (well somebody had to ) and the beer that's coming up includes Old Tom. Oh god this could be messy.

I know why he's getting it in. It's coming up for the once a year Christmas drinkers on office night out fridays. "What's your strongest beer?". Two pints later they're out of it.
