This is the one my ex was on. Wild mood swings for three weeks (that may have just been her being mentalist though), random periods for two months. Then just as normal, but never had another period, except when she missed one.

You know when lady times turn up a day early, and you're out completely unexpecting it? Yeah, I hate being female.

Personally I'm always on standby for five or so days beforehand. As soon as I feel the twinge, I'm there. It sometimes feels like I'm just standing staring at my abdomen with a tampon in one hand and ibuprofen in the other. I'm that paranoid.

Speaking of which, I was totally on edge yesterday about it. Couldn't relax throughout the hour-long talks - I was silently thinking "I'm going to stand up and see I've left a nice red blotch on the smart conference chairs". I didn't, but Christ.

At least you get a warning! Mine are virtually painless which sometimes leads to some nasty surprises.

I get off lucky with mine, Microgynon reduces it to clockwork functioning, but also I usually have a day of cramps before anything happens, so if I have an accident with that taken into account it's really all my fault

That's the thing, like Hannah, Microgynon has left me knowing almost down to the hour of when it'll turn up, so this was really out of the blue. Wandering round the toilets in the bar asking if anyone had anything... That was kind of embarrassing. Damn it for not having machines. At least this one isn't really painful at all! Though that could partly be due to all the painkillers I took for my neck earlier...

Yeah I'm the same but maybe once a year I'll have one, which makes me completely unprepared for it. And they're always painful, probably due to me not being used to it or whatever. Still an awesome amount of time not having them though.

As I've seen it mentioned by a couple of people on here but can't remember who, does anybody have any general tips or advice for dealing with IBS?

I'm reading the leaflet given to me by the GP and frankly I do most of what it suggests in the lifestyle bit anyway (about the only thing I don't cover already is cutting down tea, which I need to try) and doesn't really give much help in terms of types of food to avoid.

I haven't changed my diet at all and it seems to be a problem every time I eat, rather than when eating specific foods.

Any help would be much appreciated - I've only found out today that this is what my problem is so I'm a bit new to it all.

I just got told a couple of weeks ago that I have IBS. The main thing I was advised to do was to try and avoid things that are making me stressed out, as that's apparently what causes/aggravates it.

I know people get different forms of it (like some will get diarrhea and some get constipated), but the doctor gave me some stuff called Fybogel which you can buy in pharmacies, that's like powdered fibre that you put in your drink. It's disgusting but it's really really helped my stomach aches :D.

Also, some people are affected by specific foods, so it could be worth cutting down on certain things and trying to find out if any of them improve it through trial and error. Things such as dairy, caffeine or spicy foods seem to be common ones.

(This is annabel latham by the way...probably my first post in about 3 years!)
