TV: Current and Recent
Re: TV: Current and Recent
TNG iMO got good at the end series 2. Ie when The Borg were introduced. Even though they are second rate Cybermen.

Dull fact you probably already know - the opposite of the TV trope of "jumping the shark" is known as "growing the beard" in reference to how TNG got better when Riker grew that beard.

I used to watch TNG back in the day but it was shit as often as it was good. Never really bothered with any of the other Trek series, saw the occasional episode and never liked them much. Always preferred Babylon 5 although thought that had dated quite badly last time I saw it.
Us Brits do space opera better. Wobbly sets aside Blake's 7 was far more appealing. Whilst Trek painted a paradisical future where poverty is wiped out with humanity searching the cosmos making friends with a strict policy of non adherence we made heroes out of a bunch of terrorists led by a (wrongly) convicted rapist and paedophile, who fought a tyrannical fascist regime throughout the Universe and lost!

You should try DS9 - that has a multi-series story arc about a war against humanity and its various allies. It takes a while to build up (which personally I think works really well) and touches upon the darker side of conflict which makes it quite different from the earlier Treks. Much of the criticism of DS9 is that it doesn't maintain the utopian ideals of TOS etc. which is undeserved because it's not the 60s anymore.
I have strong feels about DS9.

The best Sci Fi series of the last few years was Lexx.

A sign of old age when you consider something that finished 13 years ago as being from 'the past few years'
That would be Battlestar Galactica anyway!

This man. He is correct. I don't think anything will top BSG for a long long time.
