Young lad who served me in the shop had a nametag that read "Caol'An." Either someone doesn't know how to type an "á" on a keyboard to write "Caolán" or his parents actually named him that. Not sure which would annoy me more.

Aaaaargh, I'm never sure whether I should chase up bug reports I've made where the fix hasn't been committed yet. It's been a month, and the btrfs-check manpage is still a cyclic symbolic link.. even in the tagged "stable" branch released a couple of days ago. Do I poke my head out from under my rock and mention this on the mailing list, or do I trust that the devs'll get around to fixing it in due time? ._.

My niece is obsessed with My Little Pony, she's 5.

Oh god, I never knew it had become like that.

I hate trying to find words to cut out of assignments to cut the word count down whilst still answering all the questions in enough detail.

Yes. Apparently it's back in fashion, but it's totally different than old My Little Pony and more like Bratz or something. I'll have a good look when I go to town. Good shout.

I have the same problem with my cousin's kids - the lads fine, cos you just buy him what you would have wanted - radio controlled helicopters are surprisingly cheap for something that was out-of reach when I was a kid, tho' technic Lego is massively expensive. The girl tho' - no clue and you wander around the girls aisles of Toys R Us bewildered by the ugly dolls that look like street walkers. My Little Pony and Disney princesses stuff seem to go down well.

Get her the cheap helicoptor as well. She'll love it just as much as any of the boys would.

Sadly not - as much as I don't like the dead eyed dolls that fill the aisles of toy shops, she's totally into the princess-y stuff that I remember her mum liking when we were kids and not the stuff I buy her brother.

Why are you even still talking about this? The answer is simple:

Lego.

Yeah, I fucking loved Lego as a kid, I think it's pretty gender neutral. If not a standard baby doll thing always goes down well, as opposed to Barbies, Bratz which as you say all look like hookers.

Get her something related to Frozen (if there's any stock left anywhere). Every little girl is in love with Frozen right now.

There's the 'Lego Friends' brand now, which is all pastel colours and cafe's and beauty parlor sets, basically Barbie in kit form, as opposed the boys Lego - spaceships, fire stations and police cars etc
