Re: Trivial Grumblings
I hate the electoral system in the country Also what does local government *do* exactly? I've not seen any work being done where I live in ages. I saw a road being done once, and a light-bulb was replaced in a park but...

Student politics was pretty much summed up for me in my second year, when whoever was in power went on a crusade to ban lad's mags from shops on campus.
They essentially spent two months getting a single shop to stop stocking two or three different magazines, and proclaimed themselves triumphant for bringing greater equality to women. And did FUCK ALL else that year.

I found at my Uni the people running for the positions were high up prefects or head boys/girls in school and couldn't cope with the idea that they were at the same level as everyone else when they got to Uni.

Was having a good film day then friends started being shitty and decided to make other plans and leave. One actually said he wanted to go home to spend time with his mother...

Danroush wrote:Having been involved in student politics before I was actually a student myself I can't deny the egotistical aspect which frustrated me somewhat, along with the monopolisation of any issue into a feminist issue:
Government austerity
"It affects women more, it's a feminist issue!"
Big companies avoiding tax
"These companies are sexist, it's a feminist issue!"
Cuts affecting levels of care for the sick and disabled
"More women are carers, it's a feminist issue!"
etcetc, lead me to become disengaged with the activism due to feminism literally hindering progress rather than furthering it, because they stifled any attempt by others to highlight a genuine issue that needed solving, and anyone who tries to go against the feminist group within the activists gets labelled a misogynist and immediately have their views rendered as unimportant because they're a women hater
Sounds like something straight out of Viz's "Millie Tant" strip.
All right, so I MADE a mistake! ONE MISTAKE!
Can't a man start over?! Do I have to keep on PAYING?! HUH?!
Maybe I should make another mistake! ...maybe TWO more!

Have to give a presentation to my entire office on Tuesday. Have half written it so far. Hate public speaking. Bad combo.
Re: Trivial Grumblings
Mums lying in bed because it's half term and her schools off and I have to go to work.
I mean, balanced against the 22 years I didn't work, where she did, it doesn't seem much but still. That's why it's trivial.
