I prefer using self service if I'm not doing booze shopping. Waitrose only have them for the self scan here, which makes it even quicker and easier because you're literally just paying - takes less than a minute to go through. Except for the (old) people who are quite literally unable.to follow the rather simple instructions on the screen in front of them and hold everyone else up.

I have the witcher 3 downloaded on my Xbox and was ready to go at midnight for an hour or two, up for work in the morning so wasn't planning on playing long just a bit. However it is released at 12 UTC, so 1am here. Slightly inconvenient.

I prefer self service, I just want to do my shopping and not engage with other people sometimes  Although that often isn't the case as you have to call over the supervisor when the machine inevitably screws up.

If the machine screws up its probably a coin or note jam, majority of other problems are due to the people using them. Not all right enough, but a good percentage.

God the Morrisons Self Serve checkouts are god awful. Slow as a week in the jail and if you scan alcohol through it doesn't let you continue, unlike other ones that will halt you before payment allowing to scan all your items in.

Trivial Grumbling, I think I had a hypo (low blood sugars) in my sleep last night and I feel horrific today.

Though Morrisons are the only self service checkouts i've found so far that allow contactless payment. Other supermarkets are really missing a trick there.

siliconfury wrote:Some (most) self checkouts won't let you remove a bag of shopping (to put into your trolley) even after you've scanned an item and had it weight verified - it just halts and asks for assistance. Though I have occasionally seen SCOs (at an ASDA) that have belts on them and are actually designed for trolleys.

Some supermarkets have some room at the SCO bank for trolleys (like some larger Tescos) but some are just way to small for trolleys (medium sized Morrisons).

This was what I was saying really, but I guess I haven't been to many big Asdas/Tescos lately, as I started shopping online as a student (with little top up shops from either LIDL in first year, then the convenience store round the corner in second year). Plus I've also been away for nearly a year now, so I've mostly seen small SCO areas, in which bringing a trolley in is clearly a dick move as it blocks pretty much everyone around you.

Yeah, I've never seen any huge self check outs which were designed for trolleys and long shops, so that might be the issue.

Yeah, but contactless is a shit idea and needs to go away. In particular, banks should stop trying to force people to have contactless debit cards (and it shouldn't take a fucking month for them to get their shit together and send a sensible, contactless-less card+PIN in replacement).

What? I love contactless, it's way faster than C+P.

also has same capping (max amount charged per day) as an oyster card, which makes life a lot easier.

Oyster cards are the best thing to happen to London in a long time.

The only thing I don't like about contacless is they recently got it in the Dev, which makes it far too easy to get rounds in without realising it's costing you money. Literally every time you see someone you know getting one in, it's "I'll get that for you". I think I'm spending at least 50% more than I used to every night

I've registered my debit card for contactless on the tube, so I don't even need to carry an Oyster!
