I find it funny how most of the "weird" prog from the 70's has transformed into unbelievably creepy prog....

BTBAM are definitely prog, I can't say I know the others

Are any of them actually prog though? I would say they are bands that have a bit of prog in them, but not really proper prog.
They're all bands that get called prog, and meet all the criteria to make them prog...

Re: The Q&A thread
Some of these are prog metal, but not the same stuff as Camel or King Crimson. They take huge influence from the older bands, but the result isn't the same thing. But I guess it really depends on what your definition of prog is, and that definition is different depending on who you ask.
Some might say it's music that takes a theme or sound or even a story and changes it over the course of an album, or more than one album. Others might just think "long-winded noodly pretentious shite that doesn't go anywhere.".

Putting this out there...
I am NOT upper or middle class at all.
Most of the prog I listen to is older (Yes, Genesis, Floyd, King Crimson, Rush? (Can't say I class these as prog, but most do))
Im 16
Mainly discovered Prog through Rush and I always knew it was an intricate genre (interesting for a musician)
I personally find the early prog very upper-middle class music
Just getting that known

Too fucking right.

Prog? Yes. Metal? No. They're not well dressed metalheads, they're just fashionable people being fashionable.Owen wrote:Prog attracts a certain, upper-class well dressed variant of metalhead, at least recently

Re: The Q&A thread
I do, as much as I love Prog, have to agree some times they focus more on being as awkward as possible than making a good song

Re: The Q&A thread
I'm glad my mother raised me not be pressured into being girly. To be fair, my mums not very girly, we have loads of interests.
We both wear make-up, like having our hair done, etc. But we also know their is more to life than both these things.
I remember making dens and going digging for insects when I was a kid, and the little girls who weren't allowed to get dirty. That must fucking suck as a kid.
I still listened to spice girls and had barbies though, but I also had lego.
Well done mam, I'm pretty well balanced
bar the scurmpy/curry addiction, that couldn't be avoided. Cultural variation.

Re: The Q&A thread
I don't know any girls who weren't able/didn't want to do those things when they were small though. Most kids if left to their own devices like doing both typically masculine and feminine things when they're small. It seems like gender roles are enforced more nowadays though, surprisingly.

Re: The Q&A thread
Lego was brilliant. In fact here's an new topic, what did everyone play as a child?
Lego as I said was good but I could never be bothered putting it back in the box. I used to play nintendo and the Playstation constantly too. Things I used to do outside were normally football and just pretending I was some sort of super badass who was normally named something like 'spike' or 'bullet'

Lego, Pokémon, Mechano, Thomas The Tank Engine sets (until I turned 6), some other crap. I can only remember those ones, quite fondly too.

Lego Technic and Meccano here.
I always wanted the pneumatic Lego Technic kit but never did get it. Now it's horrendously expensive.
