Look on your councils website, failing that email your local counsellor. Hopefully they should be able to help you in the right direction.
Whatever branch of the council you have to talk to should also be able to point you in the way of housing apartment things that have rooms available or soon to be. The thing was that you could only stay in the place my mate was in for two years, but that should be atleast enough time to get jobs and other stuff sorted out so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Hope that helps, I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure there are mechanisms for this kind of situation.
