One of the comments pointed out that the nicotine stains on his fingers suggest that his children are more at risk from second hand smoke than they are from a transgender teacher. What risk does a transgender teacher pose anyway?!

The risk of having to explain difficult stuff like transgenderism to your kids.

I've always wondered how people would go about such a change in both a social and professional environment.

Did you not see that American animated documentary on exactly this scenario?
Who the hell reads anything in sigs these days, unless it's an animated gif?

I watched that animated documentary Jim was on about. It's all too dangerous.

This. Plus if you've got anything other than nicey nice kids, someone's gonna pipe up in class and be like "how's it like not having a dick?" etcetera.

We could go on about this transgender person's 'rights' to carry on teaching there but it's outweighed by the difficult social and emotional situation that it presents for just about everyone. At the very least it'd be in their interests to teach at a new school or if the tension/discomfort on either side becomes unbearable, to find another profession.

If that teacher feels that she's strong enough to go back to her class and deal with any difficult questions her pupils have, then fair play. I would be surprised if she wasn't anything but 100% certain she could adapt and deal with it.

Well, teachers 99% of the time whatever their background tend to be on the more extroverted side of the spectrum and I say good on her if she has the gumption to deal with it, but I would be very concerned for her welfare if the kids were anything other than good as gold.

Wouldn't have lasted long at my school, and we were one of the better ones in the area.

I didn't see the actual article, is it in a primary or secondary school?

I assumed primary school judging by the years.

Oh yeah, derp.

I think that'd be a good thing in a primary school. Plus it's not normally that kind of age group that would have a problem with it. Obviously there'll always be some parents that would.

And it only took 11 years of hard graft...

And they now owe ME £53.25!

Beer at lunch, beer after work.

Have encountered very dark times in this place...happier times ahead!
