Our work said they would, then fucked up the implementation of it. The company in microcosm, really.

Still, I did my bit.

They basically sent a cop-out email that "anyone wishing to observe the silence can do so." Apparently two minutes out of Irwin Mitchell's day is far too bloody long.

Me and a few colleagues went and sat in one of the soundproofed offices for it, but you shouldn't have to do that.

Ought to be mandatory in my opinion.

Our place said they were going to annouce the start/end of the silence with the fire alarm and that it should be observed and phone calls should be kept to a minimum.

No visible clock in this office, except on your PC and Phone (which are a couple of mins different due to inability to get even the basic things right)

No fire alarm

Inevitable cylce of confusion, embarrassment, silence till about 11:05.

I remember working on the sunday a couple of years back, and the shopping centre had said that there would be a 2 minute silence, and they played a bell over the tannoy system to start it.
Myself and the sales assistant stood in silence, while we watched a woman walk in, browse, and bring some items over to the till to pay for them. We just stared at her until the silence was over.

Thats a bit ridiculous, it should definitely be mandatory. In solihull they fire a cannon to mark the beginning and end, People literally just stop what they're doing and stand there. It's pretty mad but cool

Yeah but most of the reason why they stop what they're doing is because someone is firing a fucking cannon at them.

It's about showing respect for those who gave their lives to protect this country.
Unfortunately it seems less people care about it each year. If I'm ever at work or around when the silence takes place, I take part. One year I actually missed a bus because I decided to stand with the crowd at the local war memorial for the silence, I was a little bit disgusted that I was the youngest there (aside from small children in pushchairs).

I was asleep when I should have been remembering. At least I was silent, minus the snoring.

Ouoted For Truth.

Apparently shutting your fucking mouth for two minutes a year is too much of a sacrifice for some people.
