:P

I did have a go at a torrent before I bought a copy a few years ago and it crashed every time I tried to load a VST.

ProTools is a lot cheaper, far more stable, and decently flexible.

Plugins are pricey though.

What version was that? I think I had a similar problem with 3...6 is smooth as a baby's behind though, so far.

£550 for ProTools 10 in the Avid store, Cubase 6 is £508 from Steinberg.

Probably 5, but I can't remember for sure now.

PT generally retails for about £450, don't use the Avid store.

Even that's gone up though, I used to see it for about £200-odd.

Hmm. Maybe something to do with not being tied to Avid hardware now.

Have you seen this new collaborative DAW, by the way? I think it's a great concept and it looks interesting but from what I've read they've got a lot of work to do. http://www.ohmstudio.com/home (though the server is currently "unreachable" so I can't have a go at it).

There was a plugin for ProTools that did exactly that, but was quite pricey, about £2k a licence or something.

Is this a free beta thing or something? Looks pretty good tbh.

I'm one of those mega tight cunts still using Reaper. It's pretty good once you've "acquired" about a million extra plugins and shit. I find it easier to use than Cubase and the like too. Simple things for simple folk I guess

Yeah, it's free for beta testing until 24th October. You can pre-order the full release for 149EUR (or 39 for 6 months), not sure how much it'll be after October though.

While you're talking about VSTs:

I bought a USB adaptor to play my electric uke via the PC and it came bundled with Guitar Rig 4 LE. I've played with it a few times; it's ok. Is it worth upgrading to the full release? The publishers have a half price offer on so it would be about €45, iirc.

Is there any good genuinely free software around?

Beat me to saying pretty much the same thing. It's a festival in a big muddy wet field, not a bloody fashion show. If went to a festival to be overly concerned about what other people thought of what I was wearing I think I'd know it was time to hang up the gig shoes - talk about skewed priorities

Ive been to 10+ festivals and always been fine with a pair of boots, wellies arn't essential :P They are hot and uncomfortable as well.

Yeah, I wore my steel toecaps for all of Download, my feet didn't get wet or cold once, and they were nice and protected unlike what they would be in wellies!

What do you need it to be capable of doing?
