I had an incredibly busy day at work, and I had a moment earlier where I felt really upset about being away from my family. Crying in public always makes me feel pretty pathetic D: Thank fuck it was raining anyway.

Said washing machine is a)very loud and b)right outside my bedroom door, so no sleep for me!

PS This is also the same inconsiderate person who was having the really loud sex I was complaining about the other day

It's inconsiderate yeah, but shes probably not aware shes disturbing you. If you ask her not to put her washing on at 2am and keep it down, she probably will.

Jobdone wrote:Yeah, it may seem stupid, but like, she probably doesn't know what the noise is like in your room, and she needs some clean clothes.

Had that issue before where I didn't think there was a problem, until passive aggressive notes and shit started popping up. If there's an issue just be like "Hey, don't do that"

Oh no, she definitely does know, she's been told many times that I can hear her, yet she persists. In fact, she has spent this evening having increasingly loud sex upstairs. It's really starting to grate.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I get paranoid that I might be doing something really annoying and hope that people would just tell me and I'd stop straight away. However, there is a really inconsiderate type of person who seems to just continue to be infuriating in everything they do. No one likes to feel like a nag and confrontation like that can be really uncomfortable for a lot of people, so it's really unfair to expect people to tell you every time you're keeping them awake rather than just having a bit of consideration and thinking 'hmm, is this thing I'm doing really late at night likely to make noise and wake people up?'

I've got lucky with my new housemates in that sense but there's tiny little things in the kitchen that annoy me. Thing is they're just below that threshold of being able to whine about it without coming across as uptight. I swear I'm the only 20-something male who was taught how to wash up properly.

Sounds like exactly the kind of shit that wound me up when I shared houses.

Oh I definitely have them. Especially as me and the other older girl are the only ones who *ever* clean the kitchen. (Or anywhere else. Or buy anything.)

The most pathetic one was someone using my spoon and leaving it rotting on the side in the yoghurt pot for weeks (I refused to wash it out of principle), so when they finally did their washing up it had been so long they'd forgotten it was them who'd used it and washed everything else up, leaving it lying on the side covered in solidified, brown, was-yoghurt.

:cuss:

Sounds like you have someone like my upstairs neighbour. It's not the putting stuff on in the middle of the night that is an issue (she has a very regular bed time). It's the leaving wet laundry in the machine for a week or two that gets me. Plus the stamping around upstairs. No matter how much she is told it will not get through her thick skull. SHE WILL BURN. Or I'll just threaten to put her laundry in the dustbin again.

Haha you know its weird, I used to live with friends at uni and although it was never bad and everyone generally cleared up after themselves, I had a bit of a mother hen thing going on and would regularly wash up other peoples stuff if it was there, and assigned myself in charge of recycling and rubbish disposal because i didnt trust anyone else to remember.
I find im just much happier doing jobs i want done, even if its not my place. It makes for a nicer atmosphere in the house and other folk are more inclined to return the favours, generally speaking, that, or they feel guilty and start pulling their weight

I did that in my student houses. I was called a 'mother' more than once, and if the kitchen or bathroom ever got bad, I'd just go ahead and do it. Once the kitchen got really bad, filth all over the worktops, crap on the floor etc., so I just cleaned everything by myself. One of the guys came home while I was doing it and got genuinely pissed off, saying "You shouldn't do that, it should be a group effort" :? same guy told me I was being a pushover for scrubbing the bin that was covered in mould..

I usually end up doing it all, I actually enjoy cleaning (especially washing up). I also find that once a place is looking really nice most people tend to be more motivated to keeping it clean, whereas getting everyone to do a bit when it is a tip rarely works.

I'd be one of those people who'd just tidy up shit, not really caring who's it was. I had a dishwasher in 3/4 of the places I lived in with people so it really wasn't too much of a bother and I couldn't stand living in a dirty place so I guess it was in my best interests to keep it tidy and therefore my problem.

What really fucked me off was when people wouldn't tidy for weeks, then do a 'big clean' out of procrastination or something and leave a note saying 'HEY GUYS, I JUST CLEANED THE WHOLE FLAT AND IT TOOK AGES SO LET'S KEEP IT THIS WAY OK :) :) :) :) ".

I used to be happy to help out when other people at least kind of took responsibility for themselves, and although I still like cleaning, I feel resentful that I'm the only one expected to do it. I'll clean the kitchen in the afternoon and find it looks exactly how it was before by the evening. :x

That literally happened with this girl who has never otherwise bought or cleaned anything. Her apparently really strict family were coming around so she had to tidy the kitchen (which is all her mess anyway), then she sent a big message around Facebook getting everyone to thank her for it. Er?

I used to clean the kitchen in my shared houses now and then, every few days or so but normally one a week on a Thursday night or a Friday before I was away for the whole weekend. Sure enough, I'd come back Sunday night and it'd be messy again.

There's a peculiarity of human behaviour, the less often someone actually tidies up, the prouder they are of it when they do. Fjar and I equally tidy the house, but we almost always do it out of sheer boredom.
