This actually also brings me onto the latest film I watched:

It Follows.

Decent horror flick.

I really want to see that, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have an Australian release date yet. It's going on VOD in America on Friday, so it'll probably become "available" then. I'd still rather see it in a cinema, mind.

Went to see Focus today. Not as good as I'd hoped but not as bad as I'd heard. Margot Robbie was excellent in it but unfortunately the film as a whole is pretty forgettable, so she'll still likely only be remembered for now as the girl who got naked in The Wolf of Wall Street.

Also watched Clown tonight. Fun horror movie with a pretty daft story. Hammy acting galore but somehow it doesn't detract too much from the film itself. It's moody, kind of creepy and really enjoyable. Best avoided if you suffer from coulrophobia, though.

Fish Tank was decent, far better in the first half. Doesn't have a particularly satisfying ending, but definitely worth a watch. 7/10

Probably gonna watch Hard Candy now.

The Uninvited.

Really shit if you work out the twist before they reveal it. They make it pretty obvious too.

Clown

A realtor - no, sorry, that really doesn't sound right in an English accent - an estate agent finds an old clown costume in a house he's trying to sell and decides to wear it for his son's birthday party. Unluckily for him, the clown costume doesn't want to be taken off as, even more unluckily, it's actually the skin of an ancient Nordic demon who likes chomping on children.
As each day passes, he slowly transforms into the "Cloyne" (a fictitious creature dreamt up for the purposes of the film) with the costume only able to be removed after the demon consumes five children.

Clown is an enjoyable little Eli Roth produced film, with decent acting (including a suitably over the top performance from Peter Stormare) and a great imagined history for the Cloyne. Although hardly bereft of humour, it's actually quite dark and mean spirited. Although sparing with the gore, it's not exactly bloodless, but because children are the preferred victims you do find the camera cutting away at the last second or the deaths being left more up to your imagination.

The film's highlight has to be the scene inside the indoor children's play area, which manages to make a room full of brightly coloured slides, tubes and a ball pool incredibly creepy and sinister. The film's only real negative points are its pacing and length. At 1hr 40mins, it could easily have been cut down by a good fifteen minutes, and after it starts quickly, things soon slow down to a crawl before only speeding up again towards the end.

7/10

Last night rather than sitting on the computer looking through the same websites as usual I decided to go watch TV. Ended up watching Mad Max 3 having never seen any of them before. It was decent enough so I decided to download the first two and watch them tonight. Most of the way through the first one at the minute and it's nothing like what I was expecting. Especially after seeing the trailer for the reboot that's coming out soon.

Thought it was all post-apocalyptic weird shit and mental cars, this one seems pretty normal compared to the third.
