Society

Further proving the point that you never know what you're gonna get with 80s horrors, Society begins as a tale of a man feeling out of place in his hometown and suffering from supposed paranoia, and eventually develops into a very odd orgy and general craziness.

7.5/10

I haven't seen this since it first came out, remember it being absolutely bonkers! Might rewatch it, see how it holds up.

If nothing else, the physical effects have held up an absolute treat. Done by the same guy that worked on Big Trouble in Little China, Predator and Nightmare on Elm 3&4.

But yeah, absolutely nuts movie in general. Had no idea where it was going to go, but that climax was fucking amazing.

Weakest Bond movie I have ever watched. Fairly averagely exciting beginning, a bit more action towards the end but the middle. Borefest. I was really disappointed. Literately the only highlight was the 15 minutes or so screen time Christoph Waltz got. That said...

All better than any of the Bourne/Mission Impossible inspired modern Bond movies IMO.

All CGI and fast paced action without any charm or humour (which is abundant in the books). The real stunts are made to seem insignificant due to the editing/over production. Watching some of the chase scenes in them actually gives me a headache and are difficult to follow, they're definitely made for the computer game player generation.

Not seen the new one yet so can't comment on it, but I will do at some point in the next week or two, in the local art cinema (with a Martini ) .

I really like the Bourne films. Tom Cruise can fuck himself with a frozen turd though. Watched the first M:I and thought it was crap.


As for my least favourite Bond films, I think Roger Moore was a bit of a joke really so alot of his films feature here. Excluding the two with Jaws because Jaws rocks. Prefer Timothy Dalton and Lazenby to Moore. Best was obviously Goldeneye. Brosnan is the best Bond.

It wasn't as bad as Quantum of Solace and it was definitely worth it (then again I do go see Bond in the cinema without fail), but it didn't hit me like most Bond films of recent times did. Skyfall was a proper rollercoaster ride, and this one wasn't. Perhaps it set the bar too high.

Skyfall was probably the film that changed my views of Daniel Craig as Bond. Was a bit meh at first. I love the dark feel to his films, a far cry from the light hearted Roger Moore ones. Just feel so much is missing. It was all about gadgets and stuff which are largely absent. Sure Bond has gone out the last four films armed only with a handgun and a watch and the cars make an appearance every so often.

Q showing off the gadgets was always my favourite part as a kid. Nowadays I strangely like the ones the most where MI5 or at least M or Q are in real trouble or there's some massive security compromise of some sort. Puts me more on edge, which I like.

Agreed. Its a good new direction but just felt they shouldn't have held back on Spectre.

I enjoyed Spectre, but it wasn't anywhere near on the level Skyfall was (which, imo, is possibly the best of all Bond films - and vastly better than all the other Daniel Craig ones).

Despite liking it, though, I thought it was the third best spy/espionage based film I've seen this year - 1. Kingsman 2. the new Mission: Impossible 3. Spectre. 1 was brilliant, 2 was surprisingly very good, 3 is fine.
