I went in thinking Hunger Games was a BR rip off and was pleasantly surprised. It's a similar idea (kids killing kids) but where BR really focused on the killing/fighting, HG develops characters more and gives a bigger picture of the state society is in to have that kind of event happening.
Don't get me wrong, I love BR, but yeah, the two are certainly different enough.

Yep that's the fella. It was featured on the Slice and Dice documentary I just watched. Was thinking maybe tourist trap (70s I know) but not sure about that one.

Watched Beautiful Creatures this afternoon which was crap. Saw Man of Steel this evening which I really enjoyed with a few reservations. It's almost completely humourless and the fight scenes become ridiculously relentless towards the end (with an insane amount of collateral damage).

Cavill was superb as Superman though and it's visually fantastic. I look forward to a sequel that hopefully gives us a bit more of him as Clark bantering in the Daily Planet and working as a reporter. Some reviews criticised it for having no emotional resonance which I disagree with, there are a couple of other issues some people seem to have which I can't really discuss without giving away spoilers. Overall though, good popcorn entertainment which could have been great with a sprinkling of hearty laughs.

I'm going to see Man of Steel tomorrow, I'm sure it will be worth the £3 or whatever I will pay with Orange Wednesdays.

I still don't know why your making such a fuss over its influences. You might as well say it ripped off star wars, star trek or even Battlestar Gallactica. Which let's be realistic, is almost every sci fi/superhero movie. Looper, which is one of the best and brilliant films I've ever seen, heavily borrowed from the likes of Blade Runner, Timecop and even had element of Alice in Wonderland in for good measure.

Hostel 3.

So after 2 fun gore films you'd think they'd leave it alone....no, Eli Roth's no longer involved the franchise is being flogged to death with this cack.

Plot - a load of 30-something wankers go on a stag do to Vegas looking for tits and minge, but end up getting kidnapped by the Elite Hunting Club; now they've relocated to Vegas and run some retarded casino-type thing where everyone watches the killing and bets on how the person will die. Very low budget compared to the other 2 - the gore is particularly lame, whereas before you had cock-chopping and eyeball snipping, now the best they can come up with is someone being choked with cockroaches and someone being shot with a cross bow...zzzzzzzz - get gory or fuck off. Hopefully this will be the last one they make, it's basically like Final Destination now, you know what's going to happen and they're all gonna get killed off one by one (it attempts to get around this by making ridiculous "twists" in the plot every 5 minutes - goodies turn out to be baddies, blah blah).

I don't mind influences, I do mind entire scenes ripped off from them though, that final fight was the final fight scene from The Matrix, the birthing fields, entire scene ripped off, when he went in to the bottom of the ship I was waiting for him to say Remember me boys from Independance Day, and the whole thing looked like the latest DC vs computer game

Influences i'm more than happy with, and Looper was terrible, but I didn't feel like i'd seen it before, this was like watching entire scenes from other films, even the drilling machine fight looked like Spiderman vs Doc Oc

I think it's very difficult to show a fight between two ridiculously powerful superheroes such as Superman and Zod and not have it bear some resemblance to The Matrix. It's been many years since I've seen it (the first that is, I fell asleep at the cinema during the second and never bothered with the third) so it's not a film which instantly springs to mind for me. As for ID...that film itself ripped off a million other films so I don't see it being relevant. Although that's another I've never re-watched since first seeing it at the cinema (on account of it being shit).

I wasn't terribly impressed with Looper either though, thought it just OK.
