I love him, but it's like he's married to Guillermo del Toro. He's the Bonham Carter to Del Toro's Tim Burton.

He was okay in Pacific Rim but there was no need for his character whatsoever. Del Toro only crowbarred in that part of the story so Perlman could get a part.

Agree, his character was out of sorts in comparison to the film

S'what I mean. Honestly, you get the feeling that if Ron Perlman wasn't it, del Toro would've refused to film it!

I think the guy who directed that writes on Cracked.com? I think I heard something about that anyway.

The book was written by an editor on Cracked. The film was directed by Don Coscarelli, who's previous works include the Phantasm movies and Bubba Ho Tep. Hence the batshit insanity
Also the film ends about a third of the way into the book, which is a shame. But it's still excellent.

The Worlds End - I watched this Wednesday night in derby as I had the night free. I was really enjoying it up until the last 10 minutes when it just suddenly went really shit. Main bulk of film 8/10 - after the last 10 minutes 1/10. By far the worst of the trilogy.

Saw Lone Ranger and Wolverine yesterday.

Lone Ranger was far too long, and didn't capture the magic of the first Pirates film, which is obviously what they were hoping for. Johnny Depp reprises his role as Jack Sparrow, and Arnie Hammer makes a good John Reid. As a whole it was good fun, especially the finale which was great fun. 7/10

Wolverine. I've been bored shitless by Wolverine previously. I've found him to be a two dimensional character who's invincible so no matter what happens, he's going to come out unscathed. This movie is better than the last solo outing by miles, and it does add a little bit of depth to the character. The move to japan was a good idea, the environment feeling fresh. Making him 'mortal' for a while was an ok idea...although he still seems to find bullets no more troublesome than an insect bite. It felt like they tried to make the ending a surprise, but anyone who's ever seen a film, ever, could have predicted it.
An ok film. Another 7/10

Oh and I disagree about the worlds end being the worst of the trilogy. I thought it was the best!

The Wolverine - really enjoyed it. I watched X3 to remind myself of that atrocity beforehand. Quite surprised how they kept it quite dark but still easy to watch. Hugh Jackman proved why he is the man to play the character. And I'm so happy they didn't have floating claws this time like in the Origins movie. Oh, and that post credit scene.....I did not expect to see one character there for sure. If there is a sequel, i want it to be the same level of darkness and story, it was spot on for this film. 7.5/10 now bring on Xmen Days of Future Past.
