movies
Re: movies
I watched the Cube film series again the other night. Whilst I agree about the shoddy acting across all three films, there is something I rather like about them. First one is on Netflix and the other two are much of the same.
Re: movies
The Grand Budapest Hotel - I can't work out if it is a terrible film or a great film. All I can say is I feel like it was both. I liked the camera work, set design and some of acting was great (Ralph Fiennes for example) but the animation/cgi, converluted plot and acting (Adrian Brody) was terrible. There was a ton of amazing actors in this that just seem so under and poorly used. 6/10 simply because I like Ralph Fiennes in this so much but I struggle to mark it higher.
Non Stop - a good script but just too predictable. Still enjoyable and keeps you watching. 7/10

Re: movies
The Grand Budapest Hotel is brilliant.
Brilliant art design, well directed, and acted in an off-beat way.

Well it's the first thing I've seen Jude Law and thought he was good. One thing I'm not sure about is what's wity the beginning and end sequence. The boy with the toy gun and the girl with book play no part in the story so they weren't really needed.

Really? Have you seen Side Effects from 2013? That was a pretty nifty film. I thought he was also good in Contagion and Closer. I have a soft spot for Gattaca too.

Jude Law is also one of the few good things about eXistenZ.

The Grand Budapest Hotel was my favourite film of last year...and it was a *very* strong year. Marvellous movie.
Saw Maps to the Stars the other night and really enjoyed it too. Had given up on Cronenberg after his previous couple but this was much better.

He's really good in Anna Karenina as well. Shame pretty much everyone else wasn't as good.

Chef 8/10 - It's a charming little comedy, nothing to really laugh out loud at, but I was impressed by the complete lack of cheap jokes throughout the whole thing. Very enjoyable and I'd recommend it to any of you who want something easy to watch, especially after a heartwrenching 3 hour long war epic.

The one where they go into all the CGI that went into making the film?

I really cannot watch that film. Not because of Law, but because the whole thing is basically Fisher Price My First Cronenberg.
Elements of nearly all of his earlier work, but tamed down and sanitised for a younger, wider audience. I lost quite a bit of respect for him on that film.
He earned it back though.

It's by his wife and documents the filming and production of the film up to Cannes.
