I just want a graph really, to get a sort of visual of the most occurring frequencies that have been calculated as problematic in the room I'm working with. And so I can get a sort of band system going on. Like if there's a peak around 1000hz, and the odd problem 200hz either side, I can designate a band from 800-1200 for treating.

Can you use averages?

edit: ^ in what context?

siliconfury wrote:Hmmm, So you have a collection of frequency values, and the number of times these occur? Or something else?

pretty much. I just have a list of 1218 frequencies that I know are problematic. And I'm looking for close together ones, and one's that reoccur, as they will need treating more, but also to see if there's a pattern that emerges.

Don't worry about it, I'm sure I'll think of something.

I don't know huge amounts of Excel :P

Neil: If you get as far as listing all the values, and sorting them, I think there are things you can google to count the number of instances of an item in a range. Use this to get the count.

Then choose what counts as 'close' to another value. Pick like 10% + or - from a value. Then figure out a formula, using VLOOKUP to find values in the range which are 10% +/- of each value.

To narrow down the amount of results you have on your graph.

---
Looking at your post after this it doesn't look as if you can. Unless you have to be very specific, can't you use groups or something? 1200+ items to list on a graph is huge

Plot hte frequencies on a graph so you can see them. Any patterns should then be apparent, and you can overlay some sine waves or something when you spot patterns to get a mathematical formula for them. Might find some interesting beat effects!

I know, it's just plotting over a thousand different frequencies that's the issue

So, one of my favourite pubs in Bristol is taking in CVs for summer staff at the moment. I'd totally love to work there, cider pub on a boat! But I have no experience of bar work, the most relevant experience I've had is working in a bookshop - would that be good enough? Also would it be appropriate to mention my love of cider in the CV?

Go for it, say that your love of it means you will be able to help customers and stuff as you have a wide knowledge of what each tastes like.

I guess it's serving the public, so I'd have thought it'd be relevant. And I would have thought your love of cider would show you are passionate about it and have a relevant interest. But I'm hardly a job expert :haha:

as long as you back your points up and say why you think they are useful I imagine it'll be reet.

No harm in applying I wouldn't have thought. It's not like you'll need weeks of training to learn to operate a hand pump or anything.

Aye. Go for it. You've got experience of tills having worked in a bookshop, so as long as
you can remember who ordered what, no harm in applying.
You've wont have lost anything by applying and the worst they can is turn you down.
Most pubs, certainly round my way, give a few applicants a trial shift on a normal night to
see how they go. Then whittle it down to a final 2 or 3 and they get another shift on a busy night.

Yeah, if you're writing a covering letter maybe you could mention your knowledge and enthusiasm about cider there as a reason for applying. And I would have thought unless they've specified previous experience in bar work is absolutely essential, having worked with people is still useful.

If it's one of your favourite pubs, they might recognise you. Definitely apply, there's nothing to lose, and a kickass job to gain. :D
