Decided to reorganise my wardrobe and have a minor clearout as I've got too many shirts. Coming over all sentimental. They're just bloody clothes ffs.

I have loads of black jumpers, one of which is a Jasper Conran for ages 13-14 but still fits

Apparently my water has been off all day. Now I know why. :o

Video looks better than the stills.

People with tattoos. Do you tip your tattooists? If so how much? I'm reading online 15-20% is the norm but it seems to be more of a US thing?
I'm going to tip anyways as he's done a great job but I don't want to insult etc

Never heard of doing that. Last person I was tattooed by was a mate so it would be weird. I'd maybe give him a couple of zines or tapes or something next time, but not cash.

Yeah I've never tipped tattooists - not against the idea but it's never even occurred to me, plus I feel awkward handing people extra money like a reward. When tipping in general I find it easiest to just round it up to an appropriate kind of number - if it was say £275 just calling it £300 or whatever. I'm sure they'd be grateful and not insulted by any amount though - another bonus of not being in America.

If you don't want to tip but don't want to come across as an ungrateful customer, then repeat custom, or recommendations (or even just a positive Yelp review) will be welcomed, I imagine.

It would never occur to me to pay anything other than the cost as presumably they're making a profit whenever they tattoo someone. :/

Probably an American thing.

I've never known anywhere else that seems to have a "tip" culture where they demand it. And they DO demand it in America, so much they'll chase you down the street for a few pennies.

Tip if you want, but surely you've made a deal before hand? So that's the price as far as I would know. Any serious problems then get in touch with Trading Standards.

It's understandable in America where the minimum wage is $7.25 (about £5.10) and income tax starts at 10% for people earning less than $10,000 a year. Waiting and bar staff can actually be paid as low as $2.13 an hour with the remaining $5.12 made up out of their tips, so a lot of the time even if you tip a lot that money isn't going on top of their wage, it is their wage! I always tip 20% in restaurants there, dropped to 10% if the service is bad and up to 30% if it's particularly good.

Considering that it's nearly impossible to live most places in America without a car no wonder the working poor rely on tips and can't afford healthcare.

The only people I tip are taxi drivers, but that's usually because I just hand them notes when I'm fucked at the end of the night and say keep the change cos I can't be bothered to wait.

I perhaps shouldn't have jumped at the ongoing temporary role, just because it ticked every other box and was the sort of thing I'd be good enough to be kept on. Just don't want to be wondering how long I'm gonna last. Suppose I can always take it to interview level and practice my skills.

Yeah, tipping a tattooist is a strange thing to do, and not something I've heard of over here. We're friends with ours anyway, so it's a bit different. But even were it just a stranger, I wouldn't think of tipping them.

Okay fair enough. Everywhere I read online was really 'YOU MUST TIP 20%' Which is like, £300 :( I asked my friends brother who is a tattooist and said that it's not really common but it's nice when it happens. I guess it is an American thing.
I'll probably just chuck him an extra £50 or a bottle of whiskey, because I am really happy. I think it's important to tip where it's due tbh.
