Three peaks in three weeks

Postby AnnihiSlateR » Fri Apr 03, 2015 11:03 am

To cut a long story short my dad was diagnosed with Cancer back in January. Oesophageal, Liver and Lung. There's not a lot I can do to help on a practical level, so I decided to do the next best thing and raise money for The Christie where he'd receiving treatment.

As he says though, he's not the only one going through it so I'm not doing it 'in his name' as such. More he's inspired me to do it for everyone else who is, and the future who will suffer for cancer.

Me and a few colleagues from work are going up Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis on consecutive weekends in order to try and raise the money.

I've set up a 'just giving' page to make it easier for people to donate.

I appreciate that charity is a very personal thing, and people do and don't donate for their own reasons, and some have their proffered charities and whatnot, so I don't want to come across too pushy with it, I just wanted to make everyone aware of what I'm doing.

Thanks.

Just a reminder that our first mountain will be this weekend.

We recently passed 50% of our target (not counting physical donations), so a big thanks to everyone who's donated so far. It's already more than I'd expected.

Unfortunately we didn't quite make it to the top. The combination of strong wind, low cloud/rain, and snow meant that we decided it was too dangerous to go on. We could no longer see the path, and at ~860 metres, with another 100 or so to go, visibility was so poor that we couldn't actually see this remaining 100m high mountain peak even though it must have been right in-front of us. Even though we felt able to go on physically, we were concerned we wouldn't actually be able to find the path back. So for safety reasons we didn't quite make it.

I guess that's the problem of planning around a date rather than the weather. But we've all said that when the weather is better we are going to go back and reach the top. So really it's like 3.9 peaks in 3 weeks and an odd day now haha.

We were all really disappointed, but safety has to come first. we basically made it 8/9 of the way up a hard route, up the hardest of the three mountains, in adverse weather, so we have to take some positives from it.

Snowdon next week, and the weather didn't look great for that either when I last looked. I reckon it could be another wet one.

Aye, safety first. Nobody'd thank you for needlessy putting your life in danger to raise money.

Good luck for next weekend. Here's hoping the weather turns out nice.

We made it yesterday. The views were great, at least for the 5 meters in front of us that we could see haha.
