Belated happy birthday. My birthday dinner is a large lump of corner cut beef, which is about to go into the oven.

Just tried an Iceland "cook from frozen" turkey breast joint, wrapped in bacon. Did not expect much for £2.50 but it was really good. Far more succulent and tasty than I expected. When I am back to working full Sundays again in the near future, this might be an easy back up dish.

My sister has decided to become a hobby vegetarian. We haven't had meat or fish in over 4 days. Send help.

I've found it quite good on my wallet to have veggie food during the week, also as a way of telling myself that I'm being healthy.

Back when we were skint students we used to go vegetarian one day a week to save money/cut back on saturated fats, not sure how much it actually saved but it was good for opening up our expectations about what could occupy centre stage in a meal (Dan reminded me on facebook the other day that I had an argument with someone on here about the meal potential of broccoli). Since we started going to the gym 3 times a week back in May it's been meat meat meat meat meat, I'm actually getting tired with constantly having to shovel meat.

Creamy, creeeamy mushroom, bacon and chicken risotto with parmesan and parsley.

Ain't gonna make a fat boy slim but my fuck was it worth the extra time risotto takes.

might actually give that a go, looks good!

So since me and my bloke went veggie 2-3 months ago, we've downloaded this Hello Fresh app and have made shitloads of awesome veg dishes, from currie, pies and goulash's to shepherds pie and soups and I've actually started for the first time ever, to enjoy cooking.
I seriously recommend the app for some new ideas, it's free and the recipes are all really easy. They put out new ones every week so you never run out. Obviously they do non-veggie ones too which look amazing!

+1 on HelloFresh. We get meaty boxes with usually at least one veggie meal in. Recipes are always really good, easy to make, and the quality of the meat they send is second to none. Probably accounts for most of the cost of the boxes.

Spectacularly ballsed up the walnut crust on my pumpkin pie (too much butter, nuts mixed too finely, didn't blind bake long enough... probably all three), but still ended up with a very nice and preposterously sweet pumpkin and walnut pudding. On a serious sugar rush from it right now.

I'm reviving this as it's coming up to winter and I've discovered the wonders of the slow cooker.....apart from the usual cheap cuts of meat stuff has anyone got any revelations?

Joint of brisket beef, shallots and whole baby carrots, usual stock, seasonings and a healthy glug of red wine. Pretty spectacular after a few hours.

Since we got back from BOA this year, the mrs & myself have been making that "half a loaf of bread full of chilli / garlic bread / cheese" thing.

Certainly saves on the washing up, and the amount of flavour is perfect cat repellent !

Can't make it in a slow cooker, but it is a one-pot job !
