A trial bundle I did today was for a claim that settled for £2.75million. :o

This literally came up in my news feed a little while after reading this, a brain damage case has just been settled for £9 million.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-15985472

That said, my cousin was in a car accident when she was 3 and suffered severe brain damage. She is now 18 and has the mental age of around a 12 year old in many respects with the incapacity to learn much more. She got 1 million (remember this one million was 15 years ago) and it's very much needed. They are probably through that now but this has enabled her to get further educationally and socially that would ever have been possible without it. To the point she can be independent and may even be able to living alone in the future.

That post wasn't saying I thought you were against it by the way, I just thought if your post was in this thread you might appreciate knowing where some of it goes :)

I'm glad your cousin has benefited from that then :)

That case I worked on was similar - although it was clinical negligence for a botched birthing - and good lord did they botch it!- severe brain damage and spastic quadriplegia so the poor boy was left severely disabled from birth - a lot of the settlement went on past and future care needs, and some also went on buying and outfitting a suitable home for him and his Dad who was his full time carer.

Terrifying when you read an expert report that says if the hospital had just called the expert when they should have done, the likelihood would have been he would have had difficulty with fine motor function but other than that been fine :(

We've got the taffscum in the Third. I demand an utter trouncing of them.

TIL the word 'berk' as an insult comes from rhyming slang - orginally 'Berkeley Hunt' stood for 'cunt'.

So is Charlie as in "A proper charlie" - short for Charlie Hunt.

It's also surprising that the following archaic words were at one time considered highly offensive blasphemous "oaths":

Strewth - God's Truth
Gadzooks - God's Hooks (the nails wot held Jesus to the cross)
Ods Bodikins - God's "Bodikins" (also the nails wot held Jesus to the cross)
Zounds - God's Wounds (the wounds wot said nails caused)
Egad - Oh God

After a bit of research, it seems that:

Cripes and Crikey = "Christ"
Lumme = "Lord Love Me"

Apparently "Bugger" is a corruption of Bulgar. (There was a Bulgarian sect called the Bogomils who were reputed to be fond of the bum.)

Man United are so going out in the third round.

As for my local team, we were knocked out by some faggy Steel poverty people. They were distracted by Sean Bean flopping his penis about while shrieking "I WAS IN LORD OF THE RINGS YOU KNOW!!!!!11"

There's also sod, which is derived from Sodomite/Sodomy.

I know people who would quite happily say "sod this" in polite company, but never "fuck this", even though "sod this" MEANS "Fuck this....in the arse".

At Erotica a guy came up and asked me where I was from, he said I looked Finnish. Spot on! I just found out now he's one of the tutors from Strictly Come Dancing, and has his own wikipedia page, wow! Wish I'd talked to him properly!
