Went and met a few people yesterday, was somebody there that I had apparently met before but I couldn't remember who they were. After about an hour of sitting outside the pub with them all I realized who they were, a guy Cliff who used to play in a load of local bands but is now Amy.

Obviously I don't have a problem with them now referring to themselves as a she or anything, it just blew my mind when I figured it out.

The cake on the cover of Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones was made by none other than Delia Smith (before she was famous).

My colleague did that DNA Ancestry thing because she wanted to know why it was she was so tanned and had such thick dark hair, yet her parents were lighter than her and didn't know of any recent non-English/Irish ancestry. We thought that maybe it'd turn out she had some Mediterranean like Greek or something, turns out she's like 20% African, namely the Cameroon/Gabon/Congo sort of area. She hasn't broken it to her mum yet.

20%? So one grandparent, or maybe two great-grandparents at a push?

That'll depend on where in Poland your family is from. I looked into this a while back. In the north, there are nordic influences from trading and intermingling with the Scandihoovians. In the east, there are Lithuanian, Ukrainian and other Slavic traits, probably left over from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the west, there is surprisingly little German influence. In the south, possibly in part due to the mountainous terrain, there hasn't been that much cross contamination since the height of the Holy Roman Empire. My family's from the south, so I'm in the latter group.

This blew my mind today. Fuck me!

I've felt the pressure wave of an IED go off but I can't imagine from an explosion measured at 21 tons of TNT :o

Geographically accurate tube map. Loving finding the little differences from the standard map, like how the right branch of the northern line which goes straight from Euston to Camden Town is actually further to the west than Mornington Crescent, which on the standard map is the one that is shown to the left.
