By this definition you are saying them wrong then.

(Protip: There is no wrong.)

By what definition? Both words have 2 consonants after the vowel so should be said short, which is how I say them

No, both words have two graphemes representing a single phoneme, after the vowel. Unless it's a rather odd variety of English, 'th' and 'ss' are both pronounced as a single sound. :B

Way to confuse speech and writing, bro.

They have two vowels, but only one sound.

As for an accent, thankfully my Norfolk roots don't show too much..only in a few words at most.

I always get told I sound posh as well though, maybe that is our accent! 8)

I don't have much of a North Eastern accent- slight hint of it in certain words, like shit (for some reason). I get more northern when I am angry and pissed. And if I am both it's even worse.

This. And from spending too much time at work my small talk tends to slip into the plastic scouse accent of the chavvy folk around here. ''IYAAA, Y'ALRIGHT?'

Only other East Midlanders can tell when someone's from the East Midlands, particularly Nottingham.

Thats because all east midlanders are happy that they have found someone that sounds as stupid as they do.

I'm so glad I don't have a Leicester accent, it's the worst sound known to man. Also, as a linguistic student, I have to say that both pronunciations of grass are equally valid etc. Having said that, bastard, sounds much much better with a short a. FACT.

same! I sound well yorkshire
I am sad to say that I now have a Canadian twang to my accent. Plus I hang around with a lot of Austrailians, and combined with the stupid southern-isms I picked up while at uni , my accent probably sound incredibly fucked up.
I am still Leeds through and through though.
