I`ve become incredibly taken by China Meiville lately. Anyone else read his books? I`m reading the stuff set in and around New Crobuzon at the moment...Perdido Street Station, the first book, is particularly wonderful. He`s a fantastically evocative writer, his books are quite dark and wildly imaginative.

I read a short story by harry bates called "farewell to the master" it is actually incredibly good and inspired the film the day the earth stood still. If you wikipedia it theres a link to the whole story as it isnt copywrited at the bottom and its definately worth a read
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.

Just finished Alice Cooper's 'Golf Monster' (v.good) and 'Crosstown Traffic: Jimi Hendrix and Post War Pop' by Charles Shaar Murray (a bit wordy, but an intresting book)

Currently reading 'My Bass and Other Animals' by Guy Pratt (journeyman bass player who's played with Coverdale/Page, Pink Floyd and Madonna) and 'The Big Sleep' by Raymond Chandler

Robert Scott & Jay Gordon - The Hickory Staff

Evil bod wipes out the entire ruling class of a fantasy world then stashes an artefact in a bank in 1870s Colarado. Fast forward to the present day and a couple of Yanks find the artefact and get transported to the fantasy world.
A bit Thomas Covenant-ish and it's good enough that the two sequels are on my "to buy" list.

Not reading a novel at the moment, just bits of different books. I'm reading bits of the 'Necronomicon' which is a collection of Lovecraft stories and bits of the Prose Edda. Since its christmas i'm starting to read the Quran so i can see what all the fuss is about. Im also re-reading bits of LOTR. If you like fantasy/war type stuff then i'd really recommend Chris Bunch's Seer King Trilogy.

Unnatural History (Pax Britannia) by Jonathan Green

Pretty good steampunk set now but as if the British Empire still ruled.
