I enjoyed the Elric novels, though they are dark at times.

This is interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Pooh and I can see what he's getting at.

Read the Eyre Affair, accidentally moved onto the fourth book in the series instead of the second. Whoops.

So while the middle two are on their way, I've got Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut to get on with. <3

What others would you recommend by him? I really enjoyed Mother Night.

For a bit of a change, I treated myself to David Mitchell (comedian)'s 'Back Story'. It's pretty entertaining and endearing so far, although he rambles almost as much crap as I do.

Crap, I'd actually managed to forget about that. Right. Finish off Rachel Morgan tonight, then leave it hooked up and probably get the first two chapters done over breakfast. Oh, and here is the first chapter: http://www.tor.com/stories/2012/09/a-me ... wind-blewq

In addition, with being given an Amazon voucher and the 12 Days of Kindle sale, I don't think I'm going to be running out of new reading material for the next six months or so.

Edit: Amazon pre-order says wednesday. Where can I find it monday?

I can't fucking wait. I left my copy of Towers of Midnight on the train so couldn't finish my re-read. Time to beast through Mistborn: Alloy of Law before A Memory of Light comes out.

Slaughterhouse 5, Cat's Cradle and Breakfast of Champions are my favourite by him.

I enjoy them especially due to their dark nature, though have found some of the passages regarding the multiverse and little too abstract to get my head round. I do like the bite-size nature of the short stories though as I find it very difficult trying to keep on top of all my media (music, books, tv, games...).

I've heard of that essay as well before, and I too can see where he's coming from. But in defence of Tolkien, material such as Simarillion and Children of Hurin stray largely from the cliché that Moorcock criticises (other than the actual setting itself). Though to be honest, when it comes to fantasy I'm a sucker for LOTR and its ilk anyway.

Potato Jim (iirc) said on IRC tonight that mate of his is fostering a guide dog puppy before it goes for training.

It reminded me of a book I loved when I was eight or nine, Operation Sandy by Cathie Bartlam. It's about a boy whose family did the same thing. The boy gets too attached to Sandy and plots to run away with him before he has to be handed back.

It's out of print sadly but there are a few second hand copies floating around on the web. It's a charming little children's novel and makes for a decent afternoon's read.

Just discovered the dick move by the publishers. The Kindle version is out on April 9th. APRIL THE FUCKING NINTH. There should be torrents up soon, but there's no way I'd going to be able to avoid a spoiler by then. I'm debating about whether to pay up or not.
